Observability of Strapdown INS Alignment: A Global Perspective [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2012
Alignment of the strapdown inertial navigation system (INS) has strong nonlinearity, even worse when maneuvers, e.g., tumbling techniques, are employed to improve the alignment. There is no general rule to attack the observability of a nonlinear system, so most previous works addressed the observability of the corresponding linearized system by ...

Online Calibration of Strapdown Magnetometers

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2009
Abstract In this work, an online calibration algorithm for strapdown magnetometers is proposed. The proposed method is based on the observation that the magnetometer's measurements are on an ellipsoid manifold. The algorithm is attitude independent and makes use of Extended Kalman Filter.

HRG strapdown navigator

IEEE Symposium on Position Location and Navigation. A Decade of Excellence in the Navigation Sciences, 2002
A new technology gyro, the hemispherical resonator gyro (HRG), has been developed which is ideally suited to strapdown navigation systems. The instrument offers greater reliability than current sensors due to its inherent simplicity. A fault-tolerant navigation system has been developed as a technology testbed to exhibit the instrument's capabilities ...

Application of Improved SRCKF for Strapdown Seeker

Proceedings of the 2019 4th International Conference on Automation, Control and Robotics Engineering, 2019
Strapdown seeker cannot directly obtain the information on the line of sight (LOS) angle and angular rate required for missile guidance. To solve this problem, in this paper, the nonlinear state equation and observation equation of strapdown seeker LOS angular rate is established. Volume Kalman Filter (CKF) algorithm is used to estimate the LOS angular

A Comparative Study of Strapdown Algorithms

Navigation, 1981
Four algorithms for computing the attitude matrix in a strapdown navigation system are described. The algorithms studied are Bortz 9-direction cosine, Bortz-quaternion, Lie algebra and Cayley transform. Each algorithm has a fast cycle and a slow cycle. In the fast cycle short term attitude information is computed in a three parameter array. This

Strapdown Navigation Technology: A Literature Survey

Journal of Guidance and Control, 1977
S inertial navigation depends on the integration of acceleration with respect to a Newtonian reference frame. Conventional systems physically maintain such a reference frame by means of gimbals. This is termed a stabilized platform, and the system gyros and accelerometers are mounted on it. Many high-performance systems of this type have evolved during
