Navigation Computation in Terrestrial Strapdown Inertial Navigation Systems

Several approaches are briefly examined with consideration given to the form in which the sensor data are generated and to the computational burden involved in each approach.

Improvement of strapdown inertial navigation using PDAF

Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 1982This paper presents a covariance analysis of the performance of a Doppler-aided low-accuracy coarsely aligned strapdown inertial navigation system (INS), whose fine alignment takes place automatically in flight. It is shown that the fine alignment in azimuth, which requires turns, consists of in-flight gyro calibration and inflight gyrocompassing.
