Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

SGLT2 inhibitors attenuate endothelial to mesenchymal transition and cardiac fibroblast activation

open access: yesScientific Reports
Beneficial effects of sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) in cardiovascular diseases have been extensively reported leading to the inclusion of these drugs in the treatment guidelines for heart failure.

Prostaglandin D2 Synthase: A Novel Player in the Pathological Signaling Mechanism of the Aldosterone–Mineralocorticoid Receptor Pathway in the Heart

open access: yesCells
Background: A deregulated aldosterone (Aldo)–mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) pathway is linked to cardiovascular disease (CVD), including hypertension and heart failure.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Increase in mechanical load and pro-fibrotic stimulation leads to fibrotic and hypertrophic remodeling in porcine living myocardial slices

open access: yesScientific Reports
Heart failure (HF) is a growing global health concern, driven by factors such as increased mechanical load of the heart muscle tissue. This pathogenic condition is the result of remodeling processes, partially mediated by the cytokine transforming growth

Mechanisms of IgE‐mediated food allergy and the role of allergen‐specific B cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Food allergy arises when allergen‐specific B cells preferentially produce immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against harmless foods. This article explains the mechanisms driving IgE‐mediated reactions, highlights the central role of these B cells, and discusses how natural tolerance (NT) and oral immunotherapy (OIT) can reshape allergic immune responses.
