Exon 7 splicing of ERα predicts poor prognosis and increases phenotypic heterogeneity in luminal a subtype breast cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
ERα splice variant ERα∆7 lacks the C‐terminus, and its expression may change phenotypes of breast cancers. Our results showed that ERα∆7 is found in the luminal A subtype, and elevated ERα∆7 levels are linked to improved cell survival with lower proliferation and migration.

The oblique soliton waves along the interface between layers of different densities in stratified fluids

open access: yesOpen Physics
The study of nonlinear partial differential equations through analytical methods is arguably the most important and fascinating to grasp various complex physical and engineering phenomena.

How Do the Sexual Behaviors of Foreign-Born Hispanic Men Who Have Sex With Men Differ by Relationship Status?

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Men's Health, 2012
High-risk sexual behaviors may result in acquisition of sexually transmitted infections including HIV. Hispanic men who have sex with men (MSM) experience a disproportionate incidence of these infections.

Bending and twisting instabilities of columnar elliptical vortices in a rotating strongly stratified fluid

open access: yes, 2006
This is a comprehensive analysis of the linear stability of columnar elliptical vortices subject to two-dimensional strain in a rotating, stratified fluid. It is the culmination of two lines of research, one started by Dritschel involving the tall-column

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.

The efficiency of turbulent mixing in stratified fluids

open access: yes, 2011
textMixing is a common feature of stratified fluids. In stratified fluids the density varies with the height. This is true for the most fluids in geophysical environments, like lakes, the atmosphere or the ocean. Turbulent mixing plays a crucial role for

Self-organisation of decaying quasi-2D turbulence in stratified fluids in rectangular containers

open access: yes, 2003
Laboratory experiments on decaying quasi-two-dimensional turbulence have been performed in stratified fluid inside containers with length-to-width ratios delta up to 5. The Reynolds number Re of the horizontal flow, based on the r.m.s.

Rapid screening of staphylokinase protein variants using an unpurified cell‐free expression system

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An unpurified cell‐free protein synthesis (CFPS) platform enables rapid functional screening of staphylokinase variants. Direct plasminogen‐activation assays performed in microplate format provide real‐time activity readouts, allowing rapid identification and ranking of variants with improved or reduced fibrinolytic activity without protein ...

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Experimental Investigation on Two-phase Flow Pattern of Hydrocarbon Refrigerants in Shell Side of Helically Baffled Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger

open access: yesZhileng xuebao
Two-phase flow pattern of hydrocarbon working fluids in the shell side of a helically baffled heat exchanger for liquefied natural gas determines the heat transfer performance of the heat exchanger.
