Final Sudden Stratospheric Warmings and the memory of the stratosphere

2021
<p>Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) is the most spectacular dynamic event occurring in the middle atmosphere. It can lead to a warming of the winter polar stratosphere by a few tens of K in one to two weeks and a reversal of the stratospheric circulation from wintertime prevailing westerly winds to easterly winds similar to summer ...

Stratospheric Aluminum Oxide

Science, 1976
Balloons and U-2 aircraft were used to collect micrometer-sized stratospheric aerosols. It was discovered that for the past 6 years at least, aluminum oxide spheres have been the major stratospheric particulate in the size range 3 to 8 micrometers. The most probable source of the spheres is the exhaust from solid-fuel rockets.

The Jovian stratosphere in the ultraviolet

Icarus, 1985
The center-of-disk reflectivity of Jupiter in the wavelength range from 1450 to 3150 angstroms has been computed from 30 low-dispersion IUE spectra taken during solar maximum in 1978-1980. A vertically inhomogeneous radiative transfer program is used to compute model reflectivities of various stratospheric compositions for comparison.

Into the Stratosphere

1996
We have discussed many ideas in mathematics, and particularly ideas that have not yet been rigorously proven by mathematicians. For example, we don’t know if an infinity of twin primes exist, if either the Goldbach Conjecture or Riemann hypothesis is true. Many of us believe that given enough time and work, all these questions can be answered.
