Recent Developments and Applications of Hemicellulose From Wheat Straw: A Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2021
Hemicellulose is an important component of plant cell walls, which is mainly used in biofuels and bioproducts. The hemicellulose extracted from different plant sources and plant locations has different microstructure and molecule.

Straw Burning, PM 2.5 and Death: Evidence from China

open access: yesJournal of Development Economics, 2020
This study uses satellite data to detect agricultural straw burning and estimates its impact on air pollution and health in China. We find that straw burning increases particulate matter pollution and causes people to die from cardiorespiratory diseases.

Responses of microbial necromass carbon and microbial community structure to straw- and straw-derived biochar in brown earth soil of Northeast China

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Soil microbial organisms are conducive to SOC sequestration. However, little attention has been given to the contributions of living MBC and microbial necromass carbon to the SOC pool under biochar and straw amendments.

The Adjustment of Membrane Lipid Metabolism Pathways in Maize Roots Under Saline–Alkaline Stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Plants are frequently confronted by diverse environmental stress, and the membrane lipids remodeling and signaling are essential for modulating the stress responses. Saline–alkaline stress is a major osmotic stress affecting the growth and development of

Co-Immobilization of Tri-Enzymes for the Conversion of Hydroxymethylfurfural to 2,5-Diformylfuran

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Acting as a “green” manufacturing route, the enzyme toolbox made up of galactose oxidase, catalase, and horseradish peroxidase can achieve a satisfactory yield of 2,5-diformylfuran derived from 30 mM hydroxymethylfurfural.

Five-Dimensional Straw Utilization Model and Its Impact on Carbon Emission Reduction in China

open access: yesSustainability, 2022
Enormous quantities of straw in China are burnt in open fields or discarded randomly, leading to a serious waste of biomass resources and environmental pollution.

Functional characterization of thermotolerant microbial consortium for lignocellulolytic enzymes with central role of Firmicutes in rice straw depolymerization

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) straw, an agricultural waste of high yield, is a sustainable source of fermentable sugars for biofuel and other chemicals. However, it shows recalcitrance to microbial catalysed depolymerization.

Use of Aluminum-Foil and Oat-Straw Mulches for Controlling Aster Leafhopper, \u3ci\u3eMacrosteles Fascifrons\u3c/i\u3e (Homoptera: Cicadellidae), and Aster Yellows in Carrots. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Aluminum-foil and oat-straw mulches significantly (P \u3c 0.05) reduced aster leafhopper numbers on carrots compared to an untreated control and a malathion spray treatment during the first half of the growing season.
