The effect of straw incorporation on the uptake of nitrogen by winter wheat

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1985
AbstractThere was a small decrease in grain yield (from 10.8 to 10.5 t ha−1) when wheat straw (3 t dry matter ha−1) was incorporated into a silty clay loam soil sown to winter wheat. In the absence of straw, 60% of autumn‐applied 15N‐labelled nitrate was lost from the crop:soil system. Straw incorporation decreased this loss to 47%.

The Short-Term Efficacy of Straw Incorporation on Soil Detachment in Sloping Farmland

open access: yesAgriculture
Straw incorporation is applied in sloping farmland to coordinate soil water, fertilizer, air, heat, and soil erosion control in soil loss areas. Straw incorporation is considered to significantly affect soil detachment.

The potential of barley straw as an algal and cyanobacterial growth control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Algal and cyanobacterial1 blooms are increasingly becoming a problem to water utilities in the UK and around the world. Conditions such as increasing eutrophication and poor management of water bodies are consequently leading to increases in the number ...

Straw type governs methane-cycling microbiomes and CH4 emissions in paddy soils via abiotic and biotic interactions [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
Straw incorporation is widely practiced in rice paddies to enhance soil fertility and crop yield, yet its effects on methane (CH4) emissions remain uncertain due to complex microbial and soil interactions.

Fall Straw Incorporation with Plastic Film Cover Increases Corn Yield and Water Use Efficiency under a Semi-Arid Climate

open access: yesAgriculture, 2022
Corn straw incorporation in soil has been regarded as an environment-friendly approach for straw utilization. However, straw incorporation has been a challenge under a cold and dry climate due to slow decomposition.

Management of rice straw in rice-soybean succession in tropical lowland

open access: yesRevista Ceres, 2022
This study aimed to analyze rice straw alternative managements to maximize the rice-soybean succession yield and to quantify their impacts on soil properties. The experiment was set up in a completely randomized design with six replicates.

Effect of Aerated Irrigation and Straw Incorporation on Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Paddy Field during Soaking Period

open access: yesGuan'gai paishui xuebao, 2023
【Objective】 Soil stores more organic carbon than the atmosphere and biomass combined, and its change depends on a myriad of biotic and abiotic factors.

Response of bacterial community composition and co-occurrence network to straw and straw biochar incorporation

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2022
Microbial decomposition plays a crucial role in the incorporation of straw and straw biochar (SSB) into soil. Lime concretion black soil (LCBS) is a typical low-medium crop yield soil, and it is also one of the main soil types for grain production in China.

Effects of long-term straw incorporation on nematode community composition and metabolic footprint in a rice–wheat cropping system

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2021
Soil nematode communities can provide valuable information about the structure and functions of soil food webs, and are sensitive to agricultural practices, including short-term straw incorporation.
