Groundwater ages, recharge conditions and hydrochemical evolution of a barrier island freshwater lens (Spiekeroog, Northern Germany) [PDF]
Freshwater lenses below barrier islands are dynamic systems affected by changes in morphodynamic patterns, groundwater recharge and discharge. They are also vulnerable to pollution and overabstraction of groundwater.

Chlorophyll a Fluorescence: a Fast and Low-Cost Tool to Detect Superficial Scald in 'Rocha' Pear (Pyrus communis L. 'Rocha')? [PDF]
This study aimed to test whether the chlorophyll a (Chla) fluorescence determined by a low-cost non-modulated fluorometer could provide fast, reliable and non-invasive estimators of superficial scald in 'Rocha' pear (Pyrus communis L. 'Rocha').

Efeito do tratamento com aminoetoxivinilglicina (AVG) na queda pré-colheita e na maturação dos frutos em macieiras [PDF]
Apple trees cultivars Gala and Fuji were sprayed four weeks before commercial harvest with aminoethoxyvinilglycine (AVG), at doses of 0, 125, or 250 mg L-1, and assessed for preharvest fruit drop, fruit growth, and maturation on tree.

We analysed the sediment record of Golzerensee, a mountain lake in Central Switzerland, to reconstruct past vegetation responses to climatic changes, human impact and fire for the last 14 550 years. Vegetation reacted sensitively to rapid climate warming, with closed forests establishing only decades after the onset of the Holocene.

Parameters for apple quality: and an outline for a new quality concept - part 1 report [PDF]
In real life it is hard to distinguish between the two life processes, growth and differentiation. We cannot expect one measured parameter to represent only one aspect of vital quality.

Effect of Rapid or slow release nitrogen supply and cover crop/weed management on crop yield, pest incidence and fruit quality in intensive organic apple production [PDF]
Apple is the commercially most important top fruit crop grown in the European Union. In spring 2001 one-year-old trees of the apple variety ‘Ingrid Marie’ were established in an organic production system with 3.0 m between the tree rows.
