A precise extraction of the induced polarization in the 4He(e,e'p)3H reaction

open access: yes, 2010
We measured with unprecedented precision the induced polarization Py in 4He(e,e'p)3H at Q^2 = 0.8 (GeV/c)^2 and 1.3 (GeV/c)^2. The induced polarization is indicative of reaction-mechanism effects beyond the impulse approximation.

Finite-size Effects in a Two-Dimensional Electron Gas with Rashba Spin-Orbit Interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Within the Kubo formalism, we estimate the spin-Hall conductivity in a two-dimensional electron gas with Rashba spin-orbit interaction and study its variation as a function of disorder strength and system size.

Exploring Preferences for a Digital Single‐Session Intervention for Adolescent Siblings of Youth With Cancer

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Adolescent siblings of children with cancer are at elevated risk for psychosocial problems. Unfortunately, various barriers such as limited family time and resources, conflicting schedules, and psychosocial staffing constraints at cancer centers hinder sibling access to support.

Semiclassical calculation of oscillator-strengths

open access: yesJournal de Physique, 1989
Because they play a fundamental role in the calculation of bound electron stopping-powers, photon mean free paths and electron impact-excitation cross-sections, there is a need for a convenient method to calculate oscillator strengths for highly charged ions.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Angular Momentum Mixing in Crystalline Color Superconductivity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
In crystalline color superconductivity, quark pairs form at non-zero total momentum. This crystalline order potentially enlarges the domain of color superconductivity in cold dense quark matter.

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

Nuclear energy density functional from chiral pion-nucleon dynamics: Isovector spin-orbit terms

open access: yes, 2003
We extend a recent calculation of the nuclear energy density functional in the systematic framework of chiral perturbation theory by computing the isovector spin-orbit terms: $(\vec \nabla \rho_p- \vec \nabla \rho_n)\cdot(\vec J_p-\vec J_n) G_{so}(k_f)+ (

Non-perturbative calculation of the two-loop Lamb shift in Li-like ions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A calculation valid to all orders in the nuclear-strength parameter is presented for the two-loop Lamb shift, notably for the two-loop self-energy correction, to the 2p-2s transition energies in heavy Li-like ions.

Strength Calculation of Short Concrete-filled Steel Tube Columns

open access: yesInternational Journal of Concrete Structures and Materials, 2018
The aim of this work is to propose a technique to calculate the strength of short concrete-filled steel tube columns under the short-term action of a compressive load, based on the phenomenological approach and the theoretical positions of reinforced ...
