Interactions of Streptococcus iniae with phagocytic cell line
Microbes and Infection, 2015Streptococcus iniae has become one of the most serious aquatic pathogens in the last decade, causing large losses in wild and farmed fish worldwide. There is clear evidence that this pathogen is capable not only of causing serious disease in fish but also of being transferred to and infecting humans.

Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus iniae are major bacterial pathogens of tilapia that can cause high mortality concomitant with large economic losses to aquaculture. Although development of vaccines using formalin-killed bacteria to control these diseases has been attempted, the mechanism of immunity against streptococcal infections and the ...

Construction and analysis of an experimental Streptococcus iniae DNA vaccine
Vaccine, 2010Streptococcus iniae is a severe aquaculture pathogen that can also infect humans and animal. A putative secretory antigen, Sia10, was identified from a pathogenic S. iniae strain by in vivo-induced antigen technology. Using turbot as an animal model, the immunoprotective effect of Sia10 was examined as a DNA vaccine in the form of plasmid pSia10, which

Identification of Streptococcus iniae by commercial bacterial identification systems
Journal of Microbiological Methods, 2006The fish pathogen Streptococcus iniae cannot be identified by most commercial bacterial identification systems. The results presented here indicate that over 70% of our S. iniae isolates have been identified using the Biolog(R) GP microplate panels and Microlog(R) database. The isolates were confirmed as S.

The ability of Streptococcus agalactiae and Streptococcus iniae to attract macrophages of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) was investigated. The extracellular products (ECP) from S. agalactiae and S. iniae were tested in vitro for macrophage chemotaxis using blind-well chambers.

Isolation and Characterization of a Second Isolate of Streptococcus iniae
International Journal of Systematic Bacteriology, 1978A second strain of Streptococcus iniae has been recovered from an Amazon freshwater dolphin (Inia geoffrensis). This isolate differs from the first-described isolate in its ability to produce acid from lactose but not salicin and its inability to hydrolyze esculin.
