Competition and Coexistence betweenStreptococcus mutansandStreptococcus sanguinisin the Dental Biofilm [PDF]
ABSTRACTThe human mucosal surface is colonized by the indigenous microflora, which normally maintains an ecological balance among different species. Certain environmental or biological factors, however, may trigger disruption of this balance, leading to microbial diseases.

Oral microbial homeostasis, a dynamic host‐microbe balance, is vital in infectious diseases. Conventional antibiotics often disrupt this homeostasis, spurring interest in nanomaterials for oral microbial homeostasis rebalancing. This review outlines nanomaterial strategies across three ecological levels (population/community, ecosystem, and cross ...

Vaginal host–microbe signatures linked to placental outcomes in mares
Abstract Background Ascending placentitis is a leading cause of late‐term pregnancy loss in mares. Although pathogens are presumed to ascend from the caudal reproductive tract, the association between the vaginal microbiome and placentitis has not been systematically examined.

Here, we present a tetrahedral DNA framework (TDF)‐mediated Cas12a ordered assembly strategy. TDFs arrange CRISPR/Cas12a into ordered structures controllably, enhancing catalytic efficiency through localized Cas12a hotspots while maintaining spatial intervals to facilitate substrate diffusion.

Genetic Characterization and Role in Virulence of the Ribonucleotide Reductases of Streptococcus sanguinis [PDF]
Streptococcus sanguinis is a cause of infective endocarditis and has been shown to require a manganese transporter called SsaB for virulence and O2 tolerance. Like certain other pathogens, S. sanguinis possesses aerobic class Ib (NrdEF) and anaerobic class III (NrdDG) ribonucleotide reductases (RNRs) that perform the essential function of reducing ...
