Effect of stress-relief annealing on the inverse swift effect in steel and iron

Scripta Metallurgica et Materialia, 1995
The Swift effect (1) refers to the length changes that take place in metal bars and hollow tubes during torsional deformation to large strains. The inverse Swift effect reverse to the twisting that accompanies axial elongation when pretwisted samples are loaded in free extension. In this work, free end tensile tests were performed on plain carbon steel

Fabrication of simulated plate fuel elements: Defining role of stress relief annealing

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2014
Abstract This study involved fabrication of simulated plate fuel elements. Uranium silicide of actual fuel elements was replaced with yttria. The fabrication stages were otherwise identical. The final cold rolled and/or straightened plates, without stress relief, showed an inverse relationship between bond strength and out of plane residual shear ...

Effect of stress relief annealing temperature and atmosphere on the magnetic properties of silicon steel

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 2006
Abstract Fully processed non-oriented silicon steel samples 0.50 mm thick were sheared and submitted to stress relief annealing under different conditions of temperature and atmosphere to investigate the effect of this treatment on the recovery of magnetic properties.

Stress relief by annealing under external stress in Fe-based metallic glasses

Journal of Applied Physics, 2018
The effects of stress relief on the magnetic characteristics of Fe-based metallic glass (MG) ribbons are investigated under external stress through various annealing treatments. We found that long-time annealing treatments benefit for making softer magnetic MGs under applied bending stress.

Stress-Relief Annealed High-Strength Sheet Steel - Properties and Applications

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1980
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The high-strength properties of stress-relief annealed (SRA) steel are developed by processing rather than by alloying. The mechanical properties and their reproducibility as well as the properties commonly used to predict formability are described.

Stress relief of basal orientation zinc oxide thin films by isothermal annealing

Journal of Vacuum Science & Technology A: Vacuum, Surfaces, and Films, 1983
The effect of isothermal annealing on residual strain in the lattice of as-deposited basal crystallographic orientation zinc oxide was studied. Films were prepared by rf diode sputter deposition from a zinc oxide target and annealed in air for 5 to 1995 min at 300 or 500 °C. The change in crystallography as a result of annealing was determined by x-ray

Fracture properties of hydrided Zircaloy-4 cladding in recrystallization and stress-relief anneal conditions

Journal of Nuclear Materials, 2012
Abstract In this work, the stress-relieved (SRA) and recrystallized (RXA) Zircaloy-4 cladding specimens were hydrogen-charged to the target concentration of 300 wppm and then manufactured into X-specimens for fracture toughness test. The hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility of Zircaloy-4 cladding specimens in both SRA and RXA conditions were ...

Magnetostrictive loss reduction through stress relief annealing in an FeNi-based metal amorphous nanocomposite

Journal of Materials Research, 2021
FeNi-based metal amorphous nanocomposite alloys are emerging soft magnetic materials with promise for high-speed motor applications. Here we demonstrate a technique to optimize magnetic properties in toroidal cores wound from strain annealed (Fe70Ni30)80Nb4Si2B14 amorphous metal ribbon (AMR).

On the Relation between Stress-Relief Annealing, Ordering and Stress Corrosion Cracking Susceptibility in Three Copper Alloys

CORROSION 1970, 1970
Season-cracking in brass is classically stated to be the first practical occurrence of stress corrosion cracking.1 Further-more, the degree of stress corrosion susceptibility of copper-base alloys varies widely from, for example, the highly susceptible 70-30 brass to the very resistant copper-nickels.
