Couple-Stress Fluid Improves Dynamic Response of Gear-Pair System Supported by Journal Bearings

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
A systematic analysis of the dynamic behavior of a gear-bearing system with nonlinear suspension, couple-stress fluid flow effect, nonlinear oil-film force, and nonlinear gear mesh force is performed in the present study. The dynamic orbits of the system

Integrated optimization of nonlinear R/C frames with reliability constraints [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
A structural optimization algorithm was researched including global displacements as decision variables. The algorithm was applied to planar reinforced concrete frames with nonlinear material behavior submitted to static loading. The flexural performance

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Description of Polymer and Composite Hardening During Tensile Tests

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 1992
Tensile stress-strain curves of plastics and polymer composites are prepared and analyzed, the effects of temperature, water diffusion, heat treatment and notches being taken into account.

Fermion Pairing and the Scalar Boson of the 2D Conformal Anomaly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We analyze the phenomenon of fermion pairing into an effective boson associated with anomalies and the anomalous commutators of currents bilinear in the fermion fields.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.

Assessment of thermal stress risk in mass concrete elements: use of expedited diagrams [PDF]

open access: yesRevista IBRACON de Estruturas e Materiais
Large structural elements have been commonly observed in increasingly tall buildings, employing mass concrete elements in their foundations. In these elements, the internal heat generated by the cement hydration can be decisive for the occurrence of ...

Manufacturing of Composites by Pressure Infiltration, Structure and Mechanical Properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper presents the possibility of composite block production by using pressure infiltration technology. This method uses the pressure of an inert gas (usually argon or nitrogen) to force the melted matrix material to infiltrate the reinforcing ...
