A Practical Noise2Noise Denoising Pipeline for High‐Throughput Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A lightweight and reproducible denoising pipeline for high‐throughput Raman spectroscopy is introduced, based on a 1D convolutional autoencoder trained with a Noise2Noise strategy. Using only repeated short‐exposure acquisitions, the method suppresses stochastic noise without reference spectra, enabling reliable spectral reconstruction while preserving

Full-field eigenstrain reconstruction for the investigation of residual stresses in finite length weldments

open access: yesJournal of Materials Processing Technology
The reconstruction of welding residual stresses has been performed based on the assumption of continuous processing conditions, owing to the limitations of reconstruction methods. This assumption prevents the attainment of a comprehensive understanding of mechanical deformations in the entire weld zone.

Continuous Stiffness Graded Metal–Ceramic Femoral Stems: UMAT‐Based Design and Finite Element Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Functionally graded metal–ceramic femoral stems are engineered through continuous UMAT‐based stiffness tailoring, eliminating discrete material interfaces while enhancing biomechanical compatibility. Low‐index power‐law gradation optimizes load transfer, reduces stress shielding, and controls implant–bone micromotion, highlighting a materials‐design ...

Shape derivative of an energy error functional for voids detection from sub-Cauchy data

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2016
We study a new framework for a geometric inverse problem in linear elasticity. This problem concerns the recovery of cavities from the knowledge of partially overdetermined boundary data.

Semantic Modeling in Materials Science and Engineering With Platform MaterialDigital Core Ontology 3.0

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The community‐driven Platform MaterialDigital Core Ontology (PMDco) 3.0 is introduced as a Basic Formal Ontology‐aligned semantic backbone for the processing–structure–properties paradigm in Materials Science and Engineering. Modular engineering, automated releases, and validation workflows are highlighted and key semantic patterns for materials ...

The Influence of Field‐Assisted Sintering Technology (FAST) Temperature and Cooling Rate on the Microstructural Evolution in Gamma‐Titanium Aluminide Alloy GE4822

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlling the Field Assisted Sintering Technology (FAST) parameters, dwell temperature and cooling rate, significantly influences the microstructural evolution in titanium aluminide GE4822. Significant γ‐lamellar colonies develop only upon cooling through the α‐transus.

Reconstruction of a Disturbance Flow Field from Wall Measurements of Tollmien-Schlichting Waves [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In 2001, flight tests were performed in order to learn more about boundary layer transition induced by free-stream excited Tollmien-Schlichting waves.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Electronic reconstruction of hexagonal FeS: a view from density functional dynamical mean-field theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
We present a detailed study of correlation- and pressure-induced electronic reconstruction in hexagonal iron monosulfide, a system which is widely found in meteorites and one of the components of Earth's core.
