Bent surface free energy differences from simulation

open access: yes, 2000
We present a calculation of the change of free energy of a solid surface upon bending of the solid. It is based on extracting the surface stress through a molecular dynamics simulation of a bent slab by using a generalized stress theorem formula, and ...

Al–Cu Composite Casting of Laser‐Deoxidized Copper: Bonding, Interfacial Chemistry, and Thermal Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates laser‐based oxide removal of Cu inserts in oxygen‐free conditions and examines long‐term oxidation kinetics and surface chemistry under different atmospheres via X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Al–Cu compound casting with differently oxidized surfaces is performed, and intermetallic phase formation, morphology, and thermal ...

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

FLAW'S RECONSTRUCTION IN MULTI-LAYERS COMPOSITES

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Research, 2009
There are offered methods of faults reconstruction in stratified composites - stratifications (the interface flaws). Inverse geometrical problems of reconstruction of flaws are reduced to a solution of sequence of systems of the BIE obtained on the basis

Concerning the capability of monitoring the condition of coal bed by tomography based upon the representation of object model using Chebyshev polynomials

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2018
3D geomechanical model of “Vorkutinskaia” mine, which allowed describing the development of stressed and deformed state of coal bed rock mass, has been developed and realized in numbers.

Modular Hamiltonians and large diffeomorphisms in $AdS_3$

open access: yes, 2018
We generalize the work of Kabat and Lifshytz (arXiv:1703.06523), of reconstructing bulk scalar fields using the intersecting modular hamiltonian approach discussed therein, to any locally $AdS_3$ space related to $AdS_3$ by large diffeomorphisms.

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Three-Dimensional In Situ Stress Distribution in a Fault Fracture Reservoir, Linnan Sag, Bohai Bay Basin

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
The fault fracture body, consisting of faults, fracture zones, cracks, and the matrix, plays a crucial role in controlling oil and gas accumulation.

Unraveling the Effect of Tramp Elements on Phase Transformations in Steels by Combining CALPHAD Modeling and Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates how tramp elements from increased scrap usage influence phase transformations in low‐alloyed steel. Combining dilatometry and microscopy reveal that tramp elements delay transformations, reduce critical cooling rates and increase hardenability.
