Lack of clinically relevant correlation between subjective and objective cognitive function in ICU survivors: a prospective 12-month follow-up study

open access: yesCritical Care, 2019
Background Cognitive impairment and psychological distress are common in intensive care unit (ICU) survivors. Early identification of affected individuals is important, so intervention and treatment can be utilized at an early stage.

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

A modification of the convective constraint release mechanism in the molecular stress function model giving enhanced vortex growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
YesThe molecular stress function model with convective constraint release (MSF with CCR) constitutive model [J. Rheol. 45 (2001), 1387] is capable of fitting all viscometric data for IUPAC LDPE, with only two adjustable parameters (with difference found ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

PRC1‐Mediated H2Aub Loop Formation and Function in Arabidopsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science
Polycomb group (PcG) complexes play a crucial role in the regulation of gene repression and in organizing the 3D conformation of chromatin. However, while Polycomb Repressive Complex (PRC) 2 mediated H3K27me3 clearly contributes to the formation of ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Altered Human Neutrophil Function in Response to Acute Psychological Stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Objective: To examine the effects of an acute laboratory psychological stress task on neutrophil function, specifically phagocytosis of Escherichia coli and stimulated superoxide production in human neutrophils.

Dynamic changes in 3D chromatin structure during male gametogenesis in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesGenome Biology
Background Chromatin higher-order structure plays an important role in genome stability maintenance and gene transcriptional regulation; however, the dynamics of the three-dimensional (3D) chromatin in male gametophytes during the two rounds of mitosis ...
