Stress inversion using slip tendency

Computers and Geosciences, 2012
The in situ stress state is an important controlling factor for the slip behavior of faults and fractures in the earth's crust and hence for the productivity of faulted and fractured hydrocarbon reservoirs. Current methods for stress tensor estimation rely on slip vector field data; however, this information is not generally available from data sets ...

Embedding stress difference in parameter space for stress tensor inversion

Journal of Structural Geology, 2006
This paper proposes a rearrangement of Fry's sigma-space which has translated stress tensor inversion into a concise geometric problem. The kernel of our modification is in the normalisations of tensor invariants and in the adoption of weighting factors used in the studies of crystal plasticity.

Stress relaxation and inverse stress relaxation in silk fibers

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2001
AbstractStress‐relaxation experiments on four varieties of Indian silk fiber show that stress relaxation is significantly greater in non‐Mulberry silks than in the Mulberry silk and that the differences among non‐Mulberry silk fibers are relatively small. All the fibers studied also exhibit inverse stress relaxation.

Stress, Social Support, and Cortisol: Inverse Associations?

Behavioral Medicine, 2004
An association between stress and health has been hypothesized. However, the association pathways are unclear. In this article, the authors examined the associations between stress, social support, and cortisol and the mediating effect of several psychosocial variables.

Inverse method of stress analysis for cerebral aneurysms

Biomechanics and Modeling in Mechanobiology, 2007
We present a method for predicting the wall stress in a class of cerebral aneurysms. The method hinges on an inverse formulation of the elastostatic equilibrium problem; it takes as the input a deformed configuration and the corresponding pressure, and predicts the wall stress in the given deformed state.

Stress inversion in a gelatin box

2021
Assessing volcanic hazard in regions of distributed volcanism is challenging because of the uncertain location of future vents. A statistical-mechanical strategy to forecast such locations was recently proposed: here, we further develop and test it with analog models.

An Inverse Problem for a Dynamical Lamé System with Residual Stress

SIAM Journal on Mathematical Analysis, 2008
In this paper we prove Holder and Lipschitz stability estimates for determining all coefficients of a dynamical Lame system with residual stress, including the density, Lame parameters, and the residual stress, by three pairs of observations from the whole boundary or from a part of it.
