Inverse Formulation for Geometrically Exact Stress Resultant Shell

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2007
AbstractThe inverse elastostatic method deals with a class of problems in which a deformed configuration of an elastic body is known while the initial stress‐free configuration or the stress in the deformed state is to be determined. The method is imperative for certain problems in engineering applications.

Objective Evaluation of Peroneal Response to Sudden Inversion Stress

Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy, 1985
The purposes of this paper are to describe an objective technique developed to assess the dynamic response of the peroneal muscles to a sudden inversion motion and to report the results obtained from testing injured and noninjured ankles. A platform was constructed to drop the ankle into a controlled degree of inversion while measuring the time to ...

Inversion of borehole dispersions for formation stresses

1997 IEEE Ultrasonics Symposium Proceedings. An International Symposium (Cat. No.97CH36118), 2002
Horizontal tectonic stresses in vertical boreholes, and overburden and tectonic stresses in horizontal wells cause stress-induced azimuthal anisotropy in shear wave logging. It has been reported that a dipole dispersion crossover is an indicator of stress-induced anisotropy dominating over other possible sources of shear anisotropy.

Stress and Faith: An Inversely Proportional Relationship?

Journal of Christian Education, 2010
This research study investigated stress and coping amongst the principals of a small, national, Christian, independent school system. Using an approach combining questionnaires and in-depth interviews, school principals' stressors and their reactions to these stressors were examined.

Inverse melting in stressed fused silica

Applied Physics Letters, 2012
The emissive properties of proton implanted fused silica surfaces have been studied by laser beam annealing. When submitted to a high thermal step from a focused CO2 laser, an intense near infra-red thermoluminescence peak rises at a heating rate threshold. The in plane tensile stress relaxes and silica melts.

Approximate laplace transform inversions in viscoelastic stress analysis

AIAA Journal, 1964
An investigation was made of approximate methods for inverting Laplace transforms that occur in viscoelastic stress analysis when use is made of the elastic-viscoelastic analogy. Alfrey's and ter Haar's methods and Schapery's direct method were examined and shown to be special cases of a general inversion formula due to Widder. Schapery's least squares

A New Paradigm for Interpreting Stress Inversions from Focal Mechanisms: How 3D Stress Heterogeneity Biases the Inversions Toward the Stress Rate

2006
Current stress studies often utilize stress inversions of earthquake focal mechanisms to estimate four parameters of the spatially uniform stress tensor, three principal stress orientations, and a ratio of the principal stresses. An implicit assumption in these studies is that earthquakes are good random samplers of stress; hence, the set of earthquake
