A detailed analysis on the microstructure and compressive properties of selective laser melted Ti6Al4V lattice structures

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2021
In this paper, Ti6Al4V octahedron lattice structures with top cap and bottom base were fabricated through selective laser melting (SLM). The structural integrity, microstructural evolution, compressive properties and failure mechanism of as-fabricated ...

Fatigue performance control strategy of TC11 and TC17 linear friction welded joints via annealing treatment

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials
A post-weld annealing strategy was developed to control the high-cycle fatigue performance of dissimilar TC11/TC17 titanium alloy linear friction welded joints. By systematically varying the stress relief annealing temperature (590, 605, 630, and 650 °C),

A Workflow to Accelerate Microstructure‐Sensitive Fatigue Life Predictions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a workflow to accelerate predictions of microstructure‐sensitive fatigue life. Results from frameworks with varying levels of simplification are benchmarked against published reference results. The analysis reveals a trade‐off between accuracy and model complexity, offering researchers a practical guide for selecting the optimal ...

Experimental Investigation on the Fatigue Life of Ti-6Al-4V Treated by Vibratory Stress Relief

open access: yesMetals, 2017
Vibratory stress relief (VSR) is a highly efficient and low-energy consumption method to relieve and homogenize residual stresses in materials. Thus, the effect of VSR on the fatigue life should be determined. Standard fatigue specimens are fabricated to

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Solid‐State Diffusion and Intermetallic Phase Formation in Roll‐Bonded Mg–Zn Composites With Kirigami‐Patterned Inlay

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mg–Zn composites with a thickness of 0.21 mm were fabricated using roll bonding of a kirigami‐patterned Mg alloy inlay within a Zn matrix. Thermal activation following this process led to the formation of tailored intermetallic structures, which provided the composite with enhanced flexural strength.
