Stress, the Endoplasmic Reticulum, and Insulin Resistance

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2006
Abstract:  Stress, such as nutrient deprivation, viral infections, inflammation, heat shock, or lipid accumulation, imposes a serious threat to the body. These stimuli, acting both on the central control stations of the stress system and its final effectors, catecholamines and glucocorticoids, and on the peripheral target tissues, can modulate insulin

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

Genome-Wide Identification, Characterization, and Expression Profile of SWEETs Gene Family in Grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.)

open access: yesHorticulturae
SWEET (Sugars Will Eventually Be Exported Transporter) proteins, identified recently as a novel class of sugar transporters, play pivotal roles in the transport and distribution of photosynthetic products in plants.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

ZmHPAT2 Regulates Maize Growth and Development and Mycorrhizal Symbiosis

open access: yesPlants
Hydroxyproline O-arabinosyltransferase (HPAT), a critical enzyme in plant glycosylation pathways, catalyzes the transfer of arabinose to the hydroxyl group of hydroxyproline residues.

Breeding for resistance to insect-transmitted viruses in barley – an emerging challenge due to global warming

open access: yesJournal für Kulturpflanzen, 2009
Due to global warming longer periods of higher temperature in autumn and winter are expected which may result in an increasing importance of insect-transmitted viruses.

Environmental protection of titanium alloys at high temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes
Various concepts were evaluated for protecting titanium alloys from oxygen contamination at 922 K (1200 F) and from hot-salt stress-corrosion at 755 K (900 F).

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

AcNAC10, regulated by AcTGA07, enhances kiwifruit resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae via inhibiting jasmonic acid pathway

open access: yesMolecular Horticulture
Kiwifruit bacterial canker is a devastating disease caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa). NAC transcription factors play a significant role in host immunity.

In vitro method for early evaluation of nitrogen use efficiency associated traits in potato

open access: yesJournal of Applied Botany and Food Quality, 2014
The objective of the present study was to characterize various traits associated with nitrogen uptake and utilization in a range of potato cultivars. For this purpose an in vitro test system was developed which allows analyzing specific stress responses ...
