The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Stresses in Saturated and Unsaturated Subgrade Layer Induced by Railway Track Vibration

open access: yesInfrastructures
The theoretical and practical studies of the cyclic loads resulting from the movement and passage of trains on the unsaturated subgrade to determine the effect of the degree of saturation and moisture content on the foundations and infrastructure of the ...

Additional Pressure Distribution on Subway Tunnels from Ground Construction

open access: yesCivil and Environmental Engineering, 2022
In the proposed research there were evaluated the factors influencing the distribution of additional pressure from ground construction on the linings of the subway tunnels. In recent years, the Department of Tunnels and Subways of the Emperor Alexander I

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Direct comparison between rotational and extrusion rheometers

open access: yesMaterials Research, 2009
The use of cone and plate rotational rheology to characterize the flow properties of concentrated dispersion and extrusion methods to determine the rheological properties of pastes have become established rheometric techniques.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Normal stresses at the gelation transition

open access: yes, 2001
A simple Rouse-type model, generalised to incorporate the effects of chemical crosslinks, is used to obtain a theoretical prediction for the critical behaviour of the normal-stress coefficients $\Psi_{1}$ and $\Psi_{2}$ at the gelation transition.

Liftings and stresses for planar periodic frameworks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We formulate and prove a periodic analog of Maxwell's theorem relating stressed planar frameworks and their liftings to polyhedral surfaces with spherical topology.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Organic versus conventional saffron production: apocarotenoid content and heavy metal contamination in Iran

open access: yesScientific Reports
Organic farming is widely recognized as a sustainable approach with potential to enhance the quality of agricultural products, including medicinal plants such as saffron.
