Improved model of bosonic string

Physical Review D, 1987
A model of the bosonic string is presented in which 16 additional twisted scalar fields defined on the world sheet allow the tachyonic mass to vanish and scalar fields defined on the world sheet allow the tachyonic mass to vanish and the critical dimension to be lowered to d=10.

String Models and String Theories

2004
In this paper we outline some phenomena where Formal Language Theory (FLT) and First Order Logic (FOL) meet and open new perspectives in both their investigation fields. What will turn out to be essential, in this direction, are the notions of string model and string theory that are defined by extending the linear and concatenative structure of strings

STRING MODEL BUILDING AT LOW STRING SCALE

String Phenomenology, 2003
We consider string model building in scenarios in which the fundamental string scale is low compared to the four-dimensional Planck scale. We present a consistent string theory model which gives a conservative extension of the Standard Model, consisting of a D3-brane at a simple orbifold singularity.

String models with twisted currents

Physical Review D, 1986
We consider bosonic string models with non-Abelian gauge excitations, whose Lie-algebra-valued currents are ''twisted'' by nontrivial automorphisms. The twisted models have the same critical dimension as the corresponding untwisted models; however, their respective spectra are radically different.

Effective string tension in the finite-temperature smooth-string model

Physical Review D, 1988
The temperature dependence of the string tension for Polyakov's smooth-string model is investigated in the large-D limit. The effective string tension is calculated to second order in the loop expansion. At low temperature, it differs from that of the Nambu model only by terms that fall exponentially with inverse temperature.

String model building at low string scale: Towards the standard model

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2001
We consider string model building in scenarios in which the fundamental string scale is low compared to the four-dimensional Planck scale. We present a consistent string theory model which gives a conservative extension of the Standard Model, consisting of a D3-brane at a simple orbifold singularity.

String Theory, String Model-Building, and String Phenomenology — A Practical Introduction

2008
This is the written version of an introductory self-contained course on string model-building and string phenomenology given at the 2006 TASI summer school. No prior knowledge of string theory is assumed. The goal is to provide a practical, “how-to” manual on string theory, string model-building, and string phenomenology with a minimum of mathematics ...

An overview of string theory and string models

2006
Abstract It is widely believed that string theory provides the consistent framework which lies behind low energy supersymmetry. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a non-technical overview of the main ideas of string theory1, as well as to present some of the new concepts which arise and which might lead to new developments in the ...
