Coiled sheet metal strip opens into tubular configuration [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Copper alloy is converted into a spring material that can be rolled into a compact coil which will spontaneously open to form a tube in the long direction of the strip.

Amplitude Fine-Structure in the Cepheid P-L Relation I: Amplitude Distribution Across the RR Lyrae Instability Strip Mapped Using the Accessibility Restriction Imposed by the Horizontal Branch

open access: yes, 2010
The largest amplitude light curves for both RR Lyrae (RRL) variables and classical Cepheids with periods less than 10 days and greater than 20 days occur at the blue edge of the respective instability strips.

Age‐Related Characteristics of SYT1‐Associated Neurodevelopmental Disorder

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives We describe the clinical manifestations and developmental abilities of individuals with SYT1‐associated neurodevelopmental disorder (Baker‐Gordon syndrome) from infancy to adulthood. We further describe the neuroradiological and electrophysiological characteristics of the condition at different ages, and explore the associations ...

Thin Ohmic or superconducting strip with an applied ac electric current

open access: yes, 2006
The complex impedance, currents, and electric and magnetic fields are calculated as functions of resistivity and frequency or London depth for a long thin strip with applied ac current. Both Ohmic and superconducting strips are considered.

Predicting Epileptogenic Tubers in Patients With Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Using a Fusion Model Integrating Lesion Network Mapping and Machine Learning

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Accurate localization of epileptogenic tubers (ETs) in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is essential but challenging, as these tubers lack distinct pathological or genetic markers to differentiate them from other cortical tubers.

ALS With and Without Upper Motor Neuron Signs: A Comparative Study Supporting the Gold Coast Criteria

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The Gold Coast criteria permit diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) even without upper motor neuron (UMN) signs. However, whether ALS patients with UMN signs (ALSwUMN) and those without (ALSwoUMN) share similar characteristics and prognoses remains unclear.

Method of welding joint in closed vessel improves quality of seam [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
To facilitate welding of closed vessels, a metal backup strip is used at the junction inside the vessel. After welding from the outside, this strip is dissolved by a chemically reactive solvent poured through a filler hole into the ...

A 73‐Year‐Old Man With Several Years of Difficulty Climbing Stairs and Frequent Tripping

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 73‐year‐old man presented with progressive weakness and atrophy predominantly affecting the distal finger flexors and quadriceps muscles. Electrophysiological studies demonstrated mixed myogenic and neurogenic features. Muscle MRI showed inflammatory changes, and muscle biopsy revealed granulomatous myositis with histologic features ...

Hydroxychloroquine Associated With Lower Glomerular Filtration Rate Decline in Lupus Nephritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) protects kidney function in lupus nephritis (LN) by preventing flares, yet some cohort studies show no significant benefit in kidney function with HCQ. Clarifying these conflicting findings by showing early and long‐term benefits of HCQ on kidney function preservation is critical.
