The Anticlastic Curvature of a Strip With Lateral Thickness Variation

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1954
Abstract The large deflection equations of von Kármán have been extended to apply to plates of variable thickness with initial deviations of the middle surface from a plane. These are used to determine the distortion of the cross section of a strip with lateral thickness variation, when bent uniformly in the longitudinal direction ...

Thickness-twist vibrations of a quartz strip

International Journal of Solids and Structures, 1970
Abstract An exact solution of the three-dimensional equations of elasticity has been found for the thicknesstwist modes of vibration of a rotated-Y-cut quartz plate with a pair of parallel, free edges. The solution has a simple form: made possible by relaxing the condition that the edge-planes be perpendicular to the main faces of the plate.

Anticlastic curvature of strips of variable thickness

International Journal of Mechanical Sciences, 1965
Abstract The effect of bevelling the edges on the anticlastic deformations of the cross-sections of otherwise uniform thickness elastic strips or tapes subjected to pure bending is investigated. Bevelling on the concave or convex sides and on both edges of the strips is considered.

Thickness, strength, and plastic deformation of occlusal registration strips

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1982
T he selection of an appropriate occlusal registration strip enables the dentist to work with precision and provides valuable information on occlusion. There are significant differences in the thickness, strength, and plastic deformation of the various articulating papers and occlusal registration strips.

A finite strip element for the analysis of variable thickness rectangular thick plates

Computers & Structures, 1997
Abstract A linear finite strip element for the analysis of rectangular thick plates is presented. The formulation, which takes into account transverse shear deformation, is based on Mindlin's plate theory. The use of a series of localized functions in the longitudinal direction, combined with numerical integration in all directions, enables the ...

Thick silicon strip detector Compton imager

2003 IEEE Nuclear Science Symposium. Conference Record (IEEE Cat. No.03CH37515), 2003
We present results obtained with double-sided, thick (2 mm) silicon strip detectors used as a Compton imager. Reconstructed images and spectra from /sup 137/Cs and /sup 60/Co gamma-ray sources have been produced at room temperature using the multiple Compton technique.

Finite Strip‐Elements for Thick Plate Analysis

Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1989
A finite strip‐element method is presented for the analysis of thick and thin plates under transverse loading. The method combines a number of advantages of both finite strips and finite elements. The formulation results in partial uncoupling of the global equations owing to orthogonality relationships of the trigonometric functions used in the ...

Effects of metallization thickness on the characteristics of the coplanar strips

Proceedings of IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium and URSI National Radio Science Meeting, 2002
Effects of the finite metallization thickness on the characteristics of the coplanar strips (CPS) are investigated for the first time using a full-wave mode-matching technique. Numerical results indicate that the CPS' strip thickness must be included for accurate design of microwave circuits.

Rolling Strips Varying Thickness with Elimination of Widening

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
Widening is always accompanied with longitudinal rolling of strip varying thickness which is used for parabolic leaf springs production. The amount of this phenomenon at strip ends is highest which should be eliminated from end product. In this article a method for gradual elimination of widening during rolling passes is proposed. Idle rollers are used

Thickness dependence of fracture behaviour in a superconducting strip

Superconductor Science and Technology, 2013
When subjected to a magnetic field, a superconducting strip will undergo an electromagnetic body force induced by flux pinning. The magnitude of the body force is dependent on the critical current density. It is well known that the critical current density in the strip will decrease with increasing thickness.
