Biological Globalization: the other Grain Invasion [PDF]

open access: yes
Contemporary accounts of the history of globalization place the grain trade in a leading role. Narrowing price gaps for wheat in world markets serve as the key indicator of increasing market integration.

WHEAT STRIPE RUST DISEASE: QUANTITATIVE PROFILING OF YR10 GENE

open access: yes, 2017
Yellow rust the destructive fungal disease of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici (PST) results in high yield losses especially in the areas of epidemics frequently occurred in wheat all over the world. In this study, expression pattern of a yellow rust disease resistance gene (Yr10) in yellow rust resistant ...

Interphase Self‐Optimization Enables Stable Magnesium Anode in Hydrogel Electrolyte

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Based on a MgCl2 hydrogel electrolyte, we identify a tridentate chelant additive to construct a magnesium oxychloride interphase on Mg metal anodes. This self‐optimized interphase enables low‐resistance Mg2+ stripping/plating, resulting in much elongated cycling life of 600 h with 0.24 V nucleation overpotential.

Photocatalytic Water Splitting on the Lunar Surface: Prospects for In Situ Resource Utilization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Water has been found in craters on the moon nearby locations which are illuminated >80% of the time. Photocatalysis uses energy from sunlight to drive chemical reactions such as water splitting to produce oxygen and hydrogen. It is a scalable technology that requires lighter equipment and utilizes resources available on the moon. ABSTRACT The discovery

Investigation of Structural, Mechanical and Electrochemical Properties of Temperature‐Dependent Dual AlN/TiAlN Coating Synthesized by CVD Process

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study investigates thermally CVD‐deposited AlN/TiAlN dual‐layer coatings over a Si substrate, focusing on the temperature‐dependent process‐structure relationship. Systematic characterization reveals that a dense AlN interlayer combined with an optimally deposited TiAlN top layer provides enhancement in mechanical strength, tribological stability,

Lattice Structures for Bone Replacement: The Intersection of Bone Biomechanics, Lattice Design, and Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review outlines how understanding bone's biology, hierarchical architecture, and mechanical anisotropy informs the design of lattice structures that replicate bone morphology and mechanical behavior. Additive manufacturing enables the fabrication of orthopedic implants that incorporate such structures using a range of engineering materials ...
