Blood pressure effects of SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists: Mechanisms, trial evidence and Real‐world data

SGLT2 inhibitors and GLP‐1 receptor agonists modestly lower blood pressure across diverse patient populations, including those without diabetes. These effects appear largely independent of glycaemic control and offer additive value in high‐risk patients with overlapping comorbidities.

A 52-year-old woman with a history of a hearing disturbance since age 20 experienced visual hallucinations and convulsions, followed by right hemiparesis and aphasia. On the basis of a muscle biopsy and mitochondrial DNA analysis, she was diagnosed as mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes (MELAS).
