Mechanisms of Increasing Weld Depth during Temporal Power Modulation in High‐Power Laser Beam Welding

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Temporal power modulation increases weld depth in high‐power laser beam welding of dissimilar round bars by nearly 20% compared to same average continuously welded welding power. The mechanism of action also applies to sheet welding and depends on the inertia of keyhole depth for the modulated laser beam power.

Strong Convergence of Integrators for Nonequilibrium Langevin Dynamics` [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
Several numerical schemes are proposed for the solution of Nonequilibrium Langevin Dynamics (NELD), and the rate of convergence is analyzed. Due to the special deforming boundary conditions used, care must be taken when using standard stochastic integration schemes, and we demonstrate a loss of convergence for a naive implementation.

Strong Convergence of Pramarts in Banach Spaces [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Mathematics, 1981
Let E be a Banach space and be an adapted sequence on the probability space We denote by T the set of all bounded stopping times with respect to . is called a pramart ifconverges to zero in probability, uniformly in τ ≧ σ. The notion of pramart was introduced in [6].

Simulation of Inhomogeneous Refractive Index Fields Induced by Hot Tailored Forming Components

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents a simulation model for simulating inhomogeneous refractive index fields (IRIF) in hot‐forged components, accounting for thermal influences and complex geometries. Through this simulation, a priori knowledge about the propagation of the IRIF can be obtained, allowing for the positioning of the component or an optical measurement ...

The Douglas--Rachford Algorithm Converges Only Weakly [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
We show that the weak convergence of the Douglas--Rachford algorithm for finding a zero of the sum of two maximally monotone operators cannot be improved to strong convergence. Likewise, we show that strong convergence can fail for the method of partial inverses.

Strong Convergence of Distributions of Estimators

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics, 1987
It is shown that the convergence in law of estimators entails convergence uniformly over all Borel sets whenever the estimators are asymptotically equivariant in a suitable sense and the likelihood ratios of the sample are appropriately smooth. This result generalizes a recent result of Boos in many directions.

Current Trends and Future Perspective for Cold Spray Metal‐Ceramic Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The use of cold spray (CS) technology for creating cermet deposits, combining ceramic and metallic components, is advancing rapidly. Cermets offer excellent temperature handling and erosion resistance for diverse applications. This review outlines the current state of the art, focusing on the deposition dynamics and strategies to optimize the ...

Strong convergence for explicit space-time discrete numerical approximation for 2D stochastic Navier-Stokes equations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In this paper we show the strong convergence of a fully explicit space-time discrete approximation scheme for the solution process of the two-dimensional incompressible stochastic Navier-Stokes equations on the torus driven by additive noise. To do so we apply an existing result which was designed to prove strong convergence for the same approximation ...

Beyond Global Mechanical Properties: Bioinspired Triply‐Periodic Minimal Surface Cellular Solids for Efficient Mechanical Design and Optimization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Using novel probe‐based metrics, this study evaluates lattice structures on criteria critical to cellular solid optimization. Triply‐periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices outperform other lattices, offering more predictable mechanical behavior in complex design spaces and, as a result, higher performance in optimized models.
