The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Large Eddy Simulation of Swirl Topology Evolution in Strong Oxidant Jet Milling Force Field [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics
In this paper, Large Eddy Simulation (LES) is employed to investigate the evolution characteristics of a spiral jet mill. This study aims to provide a theoretical reference for the numerical simulation and design optimization of spiral jet mills.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

Stability of Spinmotive Force in Perpendicularly Magnetized Nanowires under High Magnetic Fields

open access: yes, 2012
Spinmotive force induced by domain wall motion in perpendicularly magnetized nanowires is numerically demonstrated. We show that using nanowires with large magnetic anisotropy can lead to a high stability of spinmotive force under strong magnetic fields.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Oscillator with strong quadratic damping force

open access: yesPublications de l'Institut Mathematique, 2009
Oscillations of a system with strong quadratic damping are considered. For the exact analytical form of the energy-displacement function the explicit form of the maximal amplitudes of vibration are obtained by introducing the Lambert W function. Comparing the neighbor maximal amplitudes and the corresponding energies the conclusions about the energy ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

A quantitative extraction method of force chains for composite particles in a photoelastic experiment

open access: yes工程科学学报, 2018
In geotechnical and mining engineering, numerous particle matters are involved in scientific and technical problems. Recognition and quantification of the structure and distribution of force chain networks using photoelastic experiments, for instance ...

Structural basis of αE-catenin–F-actin catch bond behavior

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Cell-cell and cell-matrix junctions transmit mechanical forces during tissue morphogenesis and homeostasis. α-Catenin links cell-cell adhesion complexes to the actin cytoskeleton, and mechanical load strengthens its binding to F-actin in a direction ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
