Determining Factors of the Czech Foreign Trade Balance: Structural Issues in Trade Creation [PDF]

open access: yes
Using panel data for 29 industries, we test alternative specifications of Czech export and import functions. The balance of trade is primarily influenced by the real exchange rate, aggregate demand and tariff changes.

Soft motions encoded by the fold and mediated by conserved hinge sites drive V‐ATPase allosteric machinery and autoinhibition

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Vacuolar H+‐ATPase (V‐ATPase) is a multisubunit rotary proton pump that acidifies intracellular compartments. Using elastic network models, we identified conserved hinge residues that govern its large‐scale functional motions. We show that intrinsically encoded ‘soft modes’ drive critical functional transitions, including rotary catalysis and ...

Social Balance Theory: Revisiting Heider’s Balance Theory for many agents [PDF]

open access: yes
We construct a model based on Heider’s social balance theory to analyze the interpersonal network among social agents. The model of social balance theory provides us an interesting tool to see how a social group evolves to the possible balance state.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Balance-of-payments-constrained growth in a multisectoral framework: a panel data investigation [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper contributes to the literature on balance-of-payments-constrained growth by providing an innovative empirical evaluation of a disaggregated version of the so-called Thirlwall's Law derived from a Pasinettian multisectoral framework.

Orientation of the Fiscal Policy in Tunisia: Structural VAR Analysis

open access: yesRomanian Economic Journal, 2017
The objective of this paper is to indicate the orientation of fiscal policy in Tunisia, using the structural budget balance, during the period 1972-2014. For this purpose, we estimate a structural VAR model consisting of the fiscal deficit to current GDP

Metastasis on pause: How dormant tumor cells stay hidden within the tumor microenvironment and evade immune surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.
