Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

An approximation function for frequency constrained structural optimization [PDF]

open access: yes
The purpose is to examine a function for approximating natural frequency constraints during structural optimization. The nonlinearity of frequencies has posed a barrier to constructing approximations for frequency constraints of high enough quality to ...

Performance-based optimization of structures: theory and applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Performance-based Optimization of Structures introduces a method to bridge the gap between optimization theory and its practical applications to structural engineering.

Kovacs effect and fluctuation-dissipation relations in 1D kinetically constrained models

open access: yes, 2003
Strong and fragile glass relaxation behaviours are obtained simply changing the constraints of the kinetically constrained Ising chain from symmetric to purely asymmetric.

Adaptable Tile‐Based Pneumatic Origami through Structurally Coupled Localized Actuation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents tile‐based pneumatic origami structures with rigid tiles and flexible fabric creases, achieving adaptable properties including morphing shape, selective multistability, and tunable stiffness. Independently pressurized folding bladders at each crease enable structurally coupled localized actuation of origami structures.

Riforme strutturali e vincoli internazionali (Structural Reforms and International Constraints)

open access: yesMoneta e Credito, 2016

Reconstructing phylogeny from RNA secondary structure via simulated evolution

open access: yes, 2002
DNA sequences of genes encoding functional RNA molecules (e.g., ribosomal RNAs) are commonly used in phylogenetics (i.e. to infer evolutionary history).

Modeling of amorphous carbon structures with arbitrary structural constraints

open access: yes, 2010
In this paper we describe a method to generate amorphous structures with arbitrary structural constraints. This method employs the Simulated Annealing algorithm to minimize a simple yet carefully tailored Cost Function (CF). The Cost Function is composed

An Inkjet‐Printed Platinum‐Based Temperature Sensing Element on Polyimide Substrates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An inkjet‐printed, meander‐structured, nanoparticle platinum‐based resistive temperature sensors on polyimide substrates are demonstrated as proof‐of‐concept. Optimized sintering at 250°C enables stable conductive structures. The Pt100‐ and Pt1000‐type sensors exhibit linear resistance–temperature characteristics with stable TCR in the 20°C–80°C range,
