Degradation of components and structures by fatigue
Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, 1996This note examines briefly fatigue as a degradation mechanism and how engineers compensate for the fatigue phenomenon. Design is generally based on the stress-lifetime concept, but this concept is not very useful for lifetime assessment of operating components; thus, fatigue crack initiation and the growth of fatigue cracks become important.

Dopamine-degrading enzyme structure
C&EN Global Enterprise, 2016A first glimpse of the three-dimensional structure of the human enzyme that converts the neurotransmitter dopamine to norepinephrine comes courtesy of X-ray crystallography and a team led by Hans E...

On the Degradation of Concrete in Marine Structures
1985Concrete is a cheap and extremely handy material and as such used extensively also in marine structures. Everybody dealing with this material knows examples of concrete apparently of almost infinite durability but also examples where serious degradation started shortly after completion of the structure.

The Synthesis, Degradation, and Structure of Polyphosphazenes.
1978Abstract : Poly(organophosphazenes) and their cyclic oligomeric analogs have been used as ligands for transition metal complexes. X-Ray structural work has shown that platinum binds to the skeleton of specific organophosphazenes. X-Ray structural work and conformational energy calculations have been used to deduce the relationships between structure ...
