Dynamic response of framed structures
Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 1986AbstractA method for analysing plane frames subjected to dynamic forces or to ground motion is presented and illustrated by a numerical example. Numerical integration uses the approximation of constant acceleration in each time interval, as in Newmark's β‐method with β = 1/4.

Dynamic response of bilinear asymmetric structures
Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 1985AbstractThe inelastic behaviour of eccentric single‐storey building structures subjected to sinusoidal ground excitation is examined. The Kryloff‐Bogoliuboff method is employed to provide approximate solutions in the amplitude‐frequency domain. Structural resisting elements are assumed to exhibit bilinear hysteretic behaviour and coupled response is ...

Dynamic response of structures with uncertain damping
Engineering Structures, 1990Abstract The uncertainty associated with damping in structural systems is identified and discussed. A second-order perturbation technique is utilized to examine the effects of damping variability on the transient and steady-state dynamic response of structural systems.

Structural Designs for Bounds on Dynamic Response
Journal of the Engineering Mechanics Division, 1973An upper bound on the displacement at a particular point on an elastic beam resulting from impulsive loading may be established. For a given volume of material in a beam of sandwich cross section, a necessary and sufficient condition for a local minimum in the displacement bound for a prescribed loading is developed by means of the calculus of ...

Dynamic Response of Linear Structures With Large Parameters
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1974The response of a linear structure with large stiffness parameters is shown to behave as a rigid object under sufficiently smooth and bounded excitations.

Efficient reanalysis for structural dynamic response
Computers & Structures, 1981Abstract A technique is presented which will reanalyze the dynamics of a structure due to a limited set of element changes. The method uses a reduced basis of normal modes and efficiently computes the steady state harmonic, stationary random or transient response of a large scale finite element model.

On minimizing the response of structures to dynamic loading

Transient Responses in Nonlinear Dynamics of Structures
Journal of Applied Nonlinear Dynamics, 2014Innumerable mechanical structures including vibrating profiles, sandwich plates, platforms, thin uniperiodic shells, laminated windshells, isotropic and orthotropic platesor even multibody systems exhibit complex dynamic behavior. Analysis of the corresponding phenomena involves interesting mathematical and experimental methods that are sometimes used ...
