Structural matrix algebras and their lattices of invariant subspaces

open access: yes, 2005
A structural matrix algebra R of n×n matrices over a field F has a distributive lattice Lat(R) of invariant subspaces ⊆Fn. This and related known results are reproven here in a fresh way.

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Weighted Average Power Similar Tests for Structural Change for the Gaussian Linear Regression Model [PDF]

open access: yes
The average exponential tests for structural change of Andrews and Ploberger (Econometrica, 62, 1994) and Andrews, Lee and Ploberger (Journal of Econometrics 70, 1996) and modifications thereof maximize a weighted average power which incorporates ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Full-length human cytomegalovirus terminase pUL89 adopts a two-domain structure specific for DNA packaging.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2019
A key step in replication of human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) in the host cell is the generation and packaging of unit-length genomes into preformed capsids. The enzymes involved in this process are the terminases.

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

Topological indices are not necessarily invariant to graph labeling

open access: yesActa Chimica Slovenica, 2015
Each element of the Universal matrix U (vertex-degree vertex-distance weighted matrix) represents the mutual contribution of two vertices weighted for the vertex degrees and the distance between them.

Molecular dynamics simulations of positively selected codons in FcγRI reveal novel biochemical binding properties

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Evolutionary analysis across 32 placental mammals identified positive selection at residues H148 and W149 in the immune receptor FcγR1. Ancestral reconstruction combined with molecular dynamics simulations reveals how these mutations may influence receptor structure and dynamics, providing insight into the evolution of antibody recognition and immune ...

Affine invariant texture analysis based on structural properties

open access: yes, 2002
This paper presents a new texture analysis method based on structural properties. The texture features extracted using this algorithm are invariant to affine transform (including rotation, translation, scaling, and skewing).

A Comprehensive Comparative Study of Quick Invariant Signature (QIS), Dynamic Time Warping (DTW), and Hybrid QIS + DTW for Time Series Analysis

open access: yesMathematics
This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of the quick invariant signature (QIS), dynamic time warping (DTW), and a novel hybrid QIS + DTW approach for time series analysis.
