Ergodic Structural Diversity Predicts Dynamics in Amorphous Materials

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2022
Identification of flexible local environments from a disordered medium has been a long-standing challenge. Here, we introduce a time-relevant structural Shannon entropy as a unique feature of the atomic-scale environment in glass, which is based on a ...

Light Transmission Properties and Shannon Index in One-Dimensional Photonic Media With Disorder Introduced by Permuting the Refractive Index Layers

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2013
In this paper, we have studied, with a numerical method, how introducing disorder affects the light transmission properties of 1-D photonic structures over a wide range of wavelengths.

Review on the Structure-Property Relationship of Lignocellulosic Materials Measured by Atomic Force Microscopy. [PDF]

open access: yesBiomacromolecules
14041418In this review, we provide an overview of how atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements on wood or other plant fibers help us understand the structure-property relationship in growing plants, matured wood material, and wood modifications and ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Ring-alkyl connecting group effect on mesogenic properties of p-carborane derivatives and their hydrocarbon analogues

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2009
The effect of the phenyl–alkyl connecting group on mesogenic properties of several series of isostructural compounds containing p-carborane (A and B), bicyclo[2.2.2]octane (C), and benzene (D) was investigated using thermal and optical methods.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
