Generating random density matrices

open access: yes, 2011
We study various methods to generate ensembles of random density matrices of a fixed size N, obtained by partial trace of pure states on composite systems.

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Comparing the Performance of Robust Controllers for Vibration Suppression in Long Rotor Systems

open access: yesAcoustics
In this paper, the vibration control of the multivariable model of rotor bearing systems is considered for investigation. Some simply structured controllers that can suppress vibrational disturbances are tested for their robustness via the H∞ optimality ...

Adaptive robust control of longitudinal and transverse electron beam profiles

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2016
Feedback control of the longitudinal and transverse electron beam profiles are considered to be critical for beam control in accelerators. In the feedback scheme, the longitudinal or transverse beam profile is measured and compared to a desired profile ...

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Deep Text Mining for Automatic Keyphrase Extraction from Text Documents

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Systems, 2011
Due to existence of a huge amount of textual data either on the World Wide Web or in textual databases like PubMed, the development of novel automatic keyphrase extraction methods has emerged as one of the key research problems in recent past ...

A new formula for the structured singular value [PDF]

open access: yes1985 24th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 1985
The concept of structured singular value was recently introduced by Doyle as a tool for analysis and synthesis of feedback systems with structured uncertainties. It is a key to the design of control systems under joint robustness and performance specifications and it nicely complements the H? approach to control system design.

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.
