Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

The validity of oral assessment (viva) that assesses specific and unique competencies in a post-graduate psychiatry examination

open access: yesSri Lanka Journal of Psychiatry, 2013
Background Studies have criticized oral assessments for having poor validity and reliability. There is limited research on structured oral assessments that assess specific competencies.

Structured online vivas for evaluating professional competency in a capstone allied health course: A pilot study

open access: yesAdvancing Scholarship and Research in Higher Education, 2023
The aim of this pilot study was to develop structured online vivas as authentic assessments for capstone students enrolled in the medical sonography program in an Australian university. The objective was to evaluate the professional competency of trainee students who were transitioning to graduate as accredited sonographers.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

STANDARDIZATION OF EVALUATION TOOL BY COMPARING SPOT, UNSTRUCTURED VIVA WITH OBJECTIVE STRUCTURED PRACTICAL EXAMINATION IN MICROANATOMY [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Medical and Clinical Research, 2012
Evaluation of students is a vital component of any educational process and it is necessary to assess their performance. It also gets a feedback of teaching process so as to improve the performance of teacher and student both.

Effectiveness of a blended viva format in cardiovascular physiology for first-year MBBS students: An initial report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Education Development
Background & Objective: Oral examinations or viva is a common mode of assessment for medical students. It is not possible to cover the entire syllabus and students often feel that the “luck factor” plays a major role in deciding their performance ...

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Reliability of a viva assessment of clinical reasoning in an Australian pre-professional osteopathy program assessed using generalizability theory [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Educational Evaluation for Health Professions, 2017
Clinical reasoning is situation-dependent and case-specific; therefore, assessments incorporating different patient presentations are warranted. The present study aimed to determine the reliability of a multi-station case-based viva assessment of ...

Loss of proton‐sensing TDAG8 increases tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the pH‐sensing receptor TDAG8 accelerates colorectal cancer progression in mice. Animals lacking TDAG8 expression had increased tumor growth, DNA damage, and recruitment of tumor‐associated immune cells, including macrophages, neutrophils, and monocytes.

Quantitative proteomic analysis reveals different characteristics of bladder cancer cells after exposure to bisphenol A

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bisphenol A (BPA), a common chemical in plastics, exerts dual effects on bladder cancer cells: low doses promote growth and migration, while high doses suppress growth and migration. Multi‐omics and bioinformatics reveal BPA acts via MAPK and inflammatory pathways.
