Influence of Citric Acid on Struvite Precipitation

Advanced Science Letters, 2017
Struvite (MgNH4PO4 · 6H2 O) is a mineral deposit which can be commonly crystallized on the surface of process pipes, pumps, and other industrial equipment and hence influence the performance and maintenance cost. However, struvite is also phosphate minerals that can be used as resources in an industrial fertilizer.

Electrochemical Precipitation of Struvite in Acidic Environment

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2019
Phosphorus is a key element of fertilizers required for the food production chain worldwide. However, its global supply is limited to phosphate rocks, which is a non-renewable resource expected to last 50 to 300 years. Nutrients recovery from phosphorus-rich wastewater streams is a promising solution to conserve this valuable resource.

Effect of Seeding Materials and Mixing Strength on Struvite Precipitation

Water Environment Research, 2006
Struvite precipitation has increasing interest as a technology for removing and recovering phosphorus from wastewater streams. Many chemical factors have been studied, such as optimum pH values and component‐ion molar ratios, yet, understanding of physical aspects is lacking.

Spontaneous precipitation of struvite from aqueous solutions

Journal of Crystal Growth, 2000
Abstract The kinetics of the spontaneous precipitation of struvite was investigated in aqueous supersaturated solutions containing stoichiometric concentrations of Mg 2+ , NH 4 + and PO 4 3− ions, ionic strenght 0.15 M NaCl and at 25°C in a batch, stirred reactor at constant supersaturation.

Struvite precipitation from urine with electrochemical magnesium dosage

Water Research, 2013
When magnesium is added to source-separated urine, struvite (MgNH(4)PO(4)·6H(2)O) precipitates and phosphorus can be recovered. Up to now, magnesium salts have been used as the main source of magnesium. Struvite precipitation with these salts works well but is challenging in decentralized reactors, where high automation of the dosage and small reactor ...

REM NUT Ion Exchange Plus Struvite Precipitation Process

Environmental Technology, 2001
Nutrients control technologies from wastewater are based on destructive technologies which defer the problem fromthe diluted liquid-phase (effluent) to a more concentrated waste (sludge) in the case of phosphates, or to nitrogen gas and/or volatile compounds in the case of ammonia.

Struvite precipitation by soil and fresh water bacteria

Current Microbiology, 1992
Struvite precipitation by 161 bacterial strains isolated from soil and fresh water was analyzed. The results showed that the ability to form struvite is not widespread among these bacteria. Struvite precipitation was influenced by environmental factors and could be enhanced by changing the experimental conditions.

Struvite precipitation using continuous flow reactor

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2019
Due to population rapid growth, fertilizer industries have to increase the production to ensure food security causing faster non-renewable resource depletion. However, organic wastewater (cow urine) commonly contains high amount in NH4+ and PO43- is still underutilized and causing eutrophication and unpleasant odour problem.

Factors influencing urease driven struvite precipitation

Separation and Purification Technology, 2013
The concern about phosphorus depletion is driving more efficient phosphorus use and recycling. In this context the precipitation of phosphate as struvite from wastewaters has recently gained considerable traction. This study investigates the influence of different parameters on the ureolytic phosphate precipitation (pH increase by means of urease ...

Membrane filtration pretreatment preceding struvite precipitation

2020
The ability of Microfiltration (MF) and Ultrafiltration (UF) technique for separation of organic matter in treatment of nutrient rich fluids is investigated in the study. Such separation is of great importance in case of performing magnesium-ammonium phosphate hexahydrate (struvite) precipitation as the struvite yield depends negatively on organic ...
