Analysis of Struvite Precipitation in Real and Synthetic Liquors
Process Safety and Environmental Protection, 2000Struvite, magnesium ammonium phosphate, is a mineral that causes a range of problems due to fouling in wastewater and sludge treatment works. Equipment susceptible to struvite encrustation includes pumps and pipework. Struvite formation was investigated at Coleshill Sludge Destruction Plant (SDP) using jar tests on real and synthetic sludge liquors.

The behaviour of pharmaceuticals and heavy metals during struvite precipitation in urine
Water Research, 2007Separating urine from wastewater at the source reduces the costs of extensive wastewater treatment. Recovering the nutrients from urine and reusing them for agricultural purposes adds resource saving to the benefits. Phosphate can be recovered in the form of struvite (magnesium ammonium phosphate).

In this study, struvite precipitation coupled with an activated sludge process was applied to slaughterhouse wastewaters. Biological treatability characteristics of the wastewater were evaluated in a wide organic loading range of 0.06-0.42 g COD (g MLVSS)(-1)d(-1) to assess COD removal as well as the extent of nitrification.

Waste bones ash as an alternative source of P for struvite precipitation
Journal of Environmental Management, 2017Struvite precipitation has been widely applied for the removal of ammonium-nitrogen (NH4-N) from wastewater. Due to the high cost of phosphorus (P) reagents, the current research trend was directed to find alternative sources of P, in order to maintain a sustainable NH4-N removal process.

Struvite Precipitation of Ammonia from Landfill Leachate
2016The application of struvite (magnesium ammonium phosphate,!MgNH&PO& ∙ 6H+O) precipitation and its recycling use for the purpose of ammonia removal from both synthetic solutions and landfill leachate were investigated in this study. The results demonstrated that chemical precipitation by struvite formation is efficient for ammonia removal from ...

Precipitation and dissolution of struvite, MgNH4PO4 x 6H2O
