Molecular insights into electroreceptor ribbon synapses from differential gene expression in sturgeon lateral line organs

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 248, Issue 5, Page 784-805, May 2026.
The expression of various genes involved in synapse development, stability and/or function was studied in developing mechanosensory neuromasts and electrosensory ampullary organs in sterlet sturgeon. Most were shared, including Slc17a8, Slc1a3 and Nrxn3, but Cbln18 was neuromast‐restricted and Tulp1 was ampullary organ‐restricted.

Guessing and Its Limits

open access: yesPhilosophy and Phenomenological Research, Volume 112, Issue 3, Page 563-577, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Guessing is the thesis that, roughly put, you may believe something iff it is among the most probable answers to a salient question. The thesis is motivated by observed features of felicitous belief reports when agents confront a question they aren't certain how to answer.

From Computational Indeterminacy to the Causal Relevance of Mental Content

open access: yesPhilosophy and Phenomenological Research, Volume 112, Issue 3, Page 652-663, May 2026.
ABSTRACT A central claim in contemporary cognitive science is that the neural mechanisms that bring about cognitive capacities and behavior are computations. It is also widely assumed that computations are not sensitive to the content, or the semantic properties of representations.
