Urinary styrene in the biological monitoring of styrene exposure.

The urinary excretion of styrene represents a promising indicator of exposure to this solvent. Nevertheless extensive research under field conditions is scant. In this investigation 214 styrene-exposed workers from 10 fiberglass-reinforced plastics factories were studied. Environmental monitoring was performed by personal passive sampling.

Radical Polymerization of Styrene Dimer and Radical Copolymerizations of Styrene Dimer with Styrene

ポリスチレンの熱分解で生じるスチレン二量体(2,4-ジフェニル-1-ブテン;SD)のラジカル重合とスチレン(St)とのラジカル共重合を,塊状重合の条件下で検討した.SD の単独重合においては,SD の嵩高い α 置換基による立体障害の影響により SD の付加が妨げられ,重合率は低く,生成物の分子量も 1000 程度と低分子量体であった.SD と St とのラジカル共重合においては,SD と St ともに消費され,分子量が約 15000 の SD と St からなる高分子量体コポリマーが生成した.DSC により測定した SD を約 30 mol%含むコポリマーのガラス転移温度(Tg)は約 130℃ であり,ポリスチレンの Tg よりもかなり高いことがわかった.
