Subclinical ketosis (SCK) is simply a condition marked by increased levels of circulating ketone bodies without the presence of the clinical signs of ketosis. Subclinical ketosis can cause economic losses through decreased milk production and association with preparturient diseases.

The rumen microbiota contributed to the development of mastitis induced by subclinical ketosis
Microbial PathogenesisMastitis is a serious disease which affects animal husbandry, particularly in cow breeding. The etiology of mastitis is complex and its pathological mechanism is not yet fully understood. Our previous research in clinical investigation has revealed that subclinical ketosis can increase the number of somatic cell counts (SCC) in milk, although the ...

Renal function of dairy cows with subclinical ketosis
Veterinary Record, 2011KETOSIS is a common disease of dairy cows resulting from a metabolic disorder that leads to hypoglycaemia and the formation of ketones (Zhang and others 2011). The evaluation of renal function has contributed to understanding of the fundamental mechanisms involved in metabolic disorders.

Bovine Subclinical Ketosis in Dairy Herds in Iran
Veterinary Research Communications, 2007Subclinical ketosis (SCK) is defined as elevated concentrations of ketone bodies in the absence of clinical signs of ketosis. It is an important metabolic disease in dairy cattle during early lactation and is associated with losses in milk production and several other periparturient diseases. Limited information is available regarding the prevalence of

Detection of Subclinical Ketosis in Urine of Cattle and Buffaloes
Indian Journal of Animal Research, 2021Background: Subclinical ketosis (SCK) in dairy cows is a common metabolic disorder and a strong determinant of the health and performance of cows throughout lactation. Considerable amount of milk loss takes place with SCK incidence in dairy animals. Greater benefits are to be gained by monitoring the cows for SCK.

Cow-Side Milktests for Subclinical Ketosis
American Association of Bovine Practitioners Conference Proceedings, 1999The objective of this article is to report on the evaluation of cow-side ketosis-tests used with milk to detect subclinical ketosis. Our findings indicate that Pink MilkĀ® and KetolacĀ® BHB are highly sensitive and specific tests for subclinical ketosis when used with milk.

Subclinical Ketosis in Dairy Cows
Veterinary Clinics of North America: Food Animal Practice, 1988Subclinical ketosis is defined as a preclinical stage of ketosis. The peak prevalence of subclinical ketosis occurs during the fourth week of lactation. Herd-related factors, breed, parity, and season are other important determinants. Subclinical ketosis can be revealed by determining levels of plasma glucose, plasma NEFA and blood, and milk or urine ...
