Bubble Sliding Characteristics and Dynamics of R134a during Subcooled Boiling Flow in a Narrow Gap

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
The numerical method was used to study bubble sliding characteristics and dynamics of R134a during subcooled flow boiling in a narrow gap. In the numerical method, the volume of fraction (VOF) model, level set method, Lee phase change model and the SST k

High‐Temperature Heat Pump Test Bench with n‐Butane (R‐600) Generating Steam

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, Volume 98, Issue 7, Page 364-373, July 2026.
This work involves building a test bench for a high‐temperature heat pump (HTHP) and analyzing the measurements. The focus is on steam generation using an HTHP to decarbonize process steam demand. The findings indicate that stable steam generation is possible, providing a higher heat transfer coefficient in the heat pump's condenser.

Effect of inlet subcooling on flow boiling in microchannels

open access: yesApplied Thermal Engineering, 2020
Abstract The paper describes experimental work to assess the effect of inlet subcooling on the flow boiling characteristics of HFE-7200 in a multi-microchannel heat sink. The experiments were performed at a mass flux of 200 kg/m2 s and system pressure of 1 bar for inlet subcooling conditions of 5 K, 10 K and 20 K and wall heat flux between 25.9 and ...

A Methodology to Integrate Closed‐Cycle Heat Pumps into Batch Distillation Columns

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, Volume 98, Issue 7, Page 374-385, July 2026.
Batch distillation often cannot use vapor recompression due to contamination risks in food and pharma. This study proposes a design for integrating closed‐loop heat pumps using natural fluids. Results show significant energy savings, offering a sustainable alternative to traditional setups.

A Short‐Cut Design Approach to Evaluate Reboiler Designs in Vapor Recompression Scenarios

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, Volume 98, Issue 7, Page 392-405, July 2026.
A short‐cut model framework that incorporates mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) requirements into reboiler design is presented, which is particularly beneficial during early process development with limited data or initial feasibility assessments.

Impact of Distillation Column Design on Potential for the Integration of Mechanical Vapor Recompression

open access: yesChemie Ingenieur Technik, Volume 98, Issue 7, Page 410-419, July 2026.
Mechanical vapor recompression integration in distillation is analyzed, focusing on feed preheating and column pressure drop. Binary methanol–water and benzene–toluene separations are studied to identify optimal designs, which are further assessed in a bioethanol vacuum distillation sequence regarding energetic, ecological, and economic performance ...

EventFlow: Real‐time neuromorphic event‐driven classification of two‐phase boiling flow regimes

open access: yesDroplet, Volume 5, Issue 3, July 2026.
We present a real‐time flow regime classification framework that integrates neuromorphic event‐driven sensing with deep recurrent neural networks. Unlike traditional frame‐based approaches, our system captures sparse event streams from an event‐based camera, representing only the dynamic brightness changes at the individual pixel level.
