Rapid Surface Intensification of the Gulf Stream Since 2014

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 16, 28 August 2026.
Abstract The warm, swift Gulf Stream (GS) plays a key role in shaping weather and climate patterns across the North Atlantic. Using 31‐year (1993–2023) of continuous satellite altimeter observations, we identify a pronounced intensification of the free‐flowing GS after its separation from the coast beginning around 2014 and persisting thereafter ...

Quantifying Daily Vertical Heat Flux in the Loop Current System: A Quasi‐Lagrangian Assessment of Frontal Hotspots

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 15, 16 August 2026.
Abstract Vertical heat exchange within the upper ocean critically influences regional climate but remains difficult to observe directly. In the Gulf of Mexico, the Loop Current and its associated eddies significantly enhance this exchange. High‐resolution glider observations reveal that this transport is dominated by sub‐daily variability an order of ...

Biomimetic Vascular Scaffold with Seamless Electrospun Aligned Nanofiber Conduit and 3D‐Printed Coil Reinforcement

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, Volume 15, Issue 30, 14 August 2026.
We introduce a new fabrication method that overcomes the current limitation of tubular gap electrospinning. We successfully fabricated a seamless hollow tube with fibers aligned along the longitudinal axis in diameters as small as 300 µm, and then reinforced it using 4‐axis 3D printing.

On–Off Switchable Micromotors for Use in Steerable Microvehicles

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, Volume 2, Issue 4, August 2026.
Electrically controllable micromotors and microvehicles are developed by tuning the diffusion of the fuel. Self‐propelled micromotors using bubble propulsion show great promise for miniaturized devices with multiuse purposes such as cargo delivery and sensing. However, there is currently no method to electrically switch the micromotors on or off. Here,

Soft Robotic Snake with Tunable Undulatory Gait for Efficient Underwater Locomotion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, Volume 2, Issue 4, August 2026.
This study designs an underwater soft snake robot using 3D‐printed soft actuators, controlled by specific signals to generate sinusoidal undulation. Results show a positive correlation between speed and swing amplitude, with optimal performance at 2/3π phase offset, PLA tail, 1.2 voltage growth rate, and 6s undulation period achieving a maximum speed ...
