A Low Noise Receiver for Submillimeter Astronomy [PDF]
A broadband, low noise heterodyne receiver, suitable for astronomical use, has been built using a Pb alloy superconducting tunnel junction (SIS). The RF coupling is quasioptical via a bowtie antenna on a quartz lens and is accomplished without any tuning elements.

ALMA Millimeter/Submillimeter Sources among Spitzer SMUVS Galaxies at z > 2 in the COSMOS Field
Submillimeter observations reveal the star formation activity obscured by dust in the young Universe. It still remains unclear how galaxies detected at submillimeter wavelengths are related to ultraviolet/optical-selected galaxies in terms of their ...

We present a sample of 30 massive (log( M _* / M _⊙ ) > 11) z = 3–5 quiescent galaxies selected from the Spitzer-HETDEX Exploratory Large Area (SHELA) Survey and observed at 1.1 mm with Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) Band 6 ...

The Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite [PDF]
AbstractThe Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS) is a NASA Small-Explorer Class experiment whose objective is to study both the chemical composition and the thermal balance in dense (NH2 > 103 cm−3) molecular clouds and, by observing many clouds throughout our galaxy, relate these conditions to the processes of star formation.

Microwave Kinetic Inductance Detectors [PDF]
Low temperature detectors have been a subject of intense interest to the scientific community over the last decade. These detectors work at very low temperatures, often well below 1 Kelvin, to minimize the noise in the measurement of photons.

Abstract This study documents micro‐ to nanoscale observations of primary nebular and secondary parent body iron sulfides in the CR1 GRO 95577. Despite the extensive alteration of the bulk sample, some primary sulfides managed to avoid alteration, having originally formed in the solar nebula during chondrule formation by either fission‐sulfidization or

Superconducting Coplanar Waveguide Filters for Submillimeter Wave On-Chip Filterbank Spectrometers [PDF]
We show the first experimental results which prove that superconducting NbTiN coplanar–waveguide resonators can achieve a loaded Q factor in excess of 800 in the 350 GHz band.
