The Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite [PDF]
AbstractThe Submillimeter Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS) is a NASA Small-Explorer Class experiment whose objective is to study both the chemical composition and the thermal balance in dense (NH2 > 103 cm−3) molecular clouds and, by observing many clouds throughout our galaxy, relate these conditions to the processes of star formation.

Dust Properties of 870 μm-selected Galaxies in GOODS-S
We analyze the dust properties of 57 870 μ m-selected dusty star-forming galaxies in GOODS-S using new deep Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array 1.2, 2, and 3 mm continuum imaging together with other far-infrared through millimeter data.

A Low Noise Receiver for Submillimeter Astronomy [PDF]
A broadband, low noise heterodyne receiver, suitable for astronomical use, has been built using a Pb alloy superconducting tunnel junction (SIS). The RF coupling is quasioptical via a bowtie antenna on a quartz lens and is accomplished without any tuning elements.

Plans for a 10-m Submillimeter-wave Telescope at the South Pole [PDF]
A 10 meter diameter submillimeter-wave telescope has been proposed for the NSF Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. Current evidence indicates that the South Pole is the best submillimeter-wave telescope site among all existing or proposed ground-based ...

Disentangling the Environment of the FU Orionis Candidate HBC 722 with Herschel [PDF]
We analyze the submillimeter emission surrounding the new FU Orionis-type object, HBC 722. We present the first epoch of observations of the active environs of HBC 722, with imaging and spectroscopy from PACS, SPIRE, and HIFI aboard the Herschel Space ...

Ground‐Based Microwave Measurements of ClO and O3 Over Scott Base, Antarctica
Abstract We present measurements from a new microwave instrument that has been deployed at Scott Base, Antarctica, primarily to measure ClO. The new instrument allows for the extension of the time series of lower stratospheric ClO measurements begun in 1996 at this site, while some of the technical improvements offer the possibility of making ...

The JCMT Legacy Release: SCUBA-2 850 μm Coadds and Catalogs
We present the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) 850 μ m Legacy Release, containing uniformly reduced, coadded tiles, and catalogs of detected emission, for the 850 μ m data from all Submillimetre Common User Bolometer Array 2 (SCUBA-2) observations ...

Mission Concept for the Single Aperture Far-Infrared (SAFIR) Observatory
The Single Aperture Far-InfraRed (SAFIR) Observatory's science goals are driven by the fact that the earliest stages of almost all phenomena in the universe are shrouded in absorption by and emission from cool dust and gas that emits strongly in the far ...

An optimized octagonal‐core terahertz (THz) photonic crystal fiber sensor is presented for accurate identification of different milk samples based on refractive index variation. The structure enables highly confined THz guidance and strong light–analyte interaction, allowing reliable discrimination of camel, cow, buffalo, and sheep milk.
