Land subsidence prediction using recurrent neural networks

open access: yesStochastic environmental research and risk assessment (Print), 2021
In an environment, one of the natural geological hazards is land surface subsidence. Underground mining and subsurface coal fires are primarily responsible for subsidence of land.

Pathogenic Germline PALB2 and RAD50 Variants in Patients With Relapsed Ewing Sarcoma

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Approximately 10% of patients with Ewing sarcoma (EwS) have pathogenic germline variants. Here, we report two cases: first, a novel germline pathogenic variant in partner and localizer of BRCA2 (PALB2) in a patient with a late EwS relapse. Its impact on homologous recombination is demonstrated, and breast cancer risk is discussed.

Should We Subsidize Longevity? [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2009
This paper studies the design of the optimal non linear taxation in an economy where longevity varies across agents, and depends on three factors: longevity genes, health investment and farsightedness. Provided earnings, farsightedness and genes are correlated, governmental intervention can be justified on two grounds: correction for a lack of ...

Top-of-permafrost ground ice indicated by remotely sensed late-season subsidence

open access: yesThe Cryosphere, 2021
. Ground ice is foundational to the integrity of Arctic ecosystems and infrastructure. However, we lack fine-scale ground ice maps across almost the entire Arctic, chiefly because there is no established method for mapping ice-rich permafrost from space.
