Experimental study on consolidation characteristics of deep clayey soil in a typical subsidence area of the North China Plain

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2022
Land subsidence is an important environmental problem in the North China Plain (NCP). A typical subsidence area mainly located on adjoining areas of Beijing and Hebei provinces was selected to study the consolidation characteristics of deep clayey soil ...

Idealized model for changes in equilibrium temperature, mixed layer depth, and boundary layer cloud over land in a doubled CO2 climate [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
An idealized equilibrium model for the undisturbed partly cloudy boundary layer (BL) is used as a framework to explore the coupling of the energy, water, and carbon cycles over land in midlatitudes and show the sensitivity to the clear‐sky shortwave flux,

Subsidization as exchange [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Public Administration, 1993
The relationship between a subsidy-receiving firm and the government granting the subsidy can be conceptualized as an agency relation, with the government in the role of the principal, and the firm in the role of the agent. The economic theory of agency relations suggests what formal characteristics of the subsidy scheme and what conditions of the ...

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

On the origin of exponential growth in induced earthquakes in Groningen [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The Groningen gas field shows exponential growth in earthquakes event counts around a magnitude M1 with a doubling time of 6-9 years since 2001. This behavior is identified with dimensionless curvature in land subsidence, which has been evolving at a ...

Engineering tandem VHHs to target different epitopes to enhance antibody‐dependent cell‐mediated cytotoxicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tandem VHH targeting distinct EGFR epitopes were engineered into a monovalent bispecific antibody (7D12‐EGA1‐Fc) with more potent ADCC without increasing affinity to EGFR. Structural modeling of 7D12‐EGA1‐Fc showed cross‐linking of separate EGFR domains to enhance CD16a engagement on NK cells.

Multi-Scale Time Series InSAR Integrated with ICA for Deciphering the Coupling Mechanism Between Groundwater Dynamics and Surface Deformation

open access: yesLand
Land subsidence has become an increasingly serious environmental problem worldwide, especially in areas where groundwater is over-exploited. Hengshui City, as part of the North China Plain in eastern China, has been experiencing increasingly severe land ...

Karst, GIS and geological hazard planning and management in Great Britain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The British Geological Survey (BGS) database of karst features for the United Kingdom include dolines, cave entrances, stream sinks, resurgences and building damage; data for approximately half of the country has so far been gathered.

From source to sink in central Gondwana: Exhumation of the Precambrian basement rocks of Tanzania and sediment accumulation in the adjacent Congo basin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Apatite fission track (AFT) and (U-Th)/He (AHe) thermochronometry data are reported and used to unravel the exhumation history of crystalline basement rocks from the elevated (>1000 m above sea level) but low-relief Tanzanian Craton.

Subsidizing The News? [PDF]

open access: yesJournalism Studies, 2017
The relation between organizational press releases and newspaper content has generated considerable attention. Yet longitudinal evidence that can substantiate claims of media’s increased reliance on this “subsidized content” is scarce, and equally scarce is literature about the reliance of the news agency—a key factor in the news production process—on ...
