A Fast Implementation of the Rijndael Substitution Box for Cryptographic AES

2020 3rd International Conference on Data Intelligence and Security (ICDIS), 2020
Today’s current standard in Cryptography is the symmetric Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) as selected by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). It is also known as Rijndael Encryption Algorithm. With the emergence of high-performance cloud computing, it is important for the security encryption schemes to perform at higher ...

Designing substitution boxes for secure ciphers

International Journal of Innovative Computing and Applications, 2007
In cryptography, a Substitution box (S-box) constitutes a cornerstone component of symmetric key algorithms. In block ciphers, they are typically used to obscure the relationship between the plaintext and the ciphertext. It is well-known that the more linear and the less auto-correlated the S-box is, the more resilient the cryptosystem that uses them ...

Globalized firefly algorithm and chaos for designing substitution box

Journal of Information Security and Applications, 2020
Abstract This study adopted a metaheuristic approach based on the firefly algorithm (FA) optimization to generate an appropriate configuration for an 8 × 8 Substitution boxes (S-boxes). The FA can construct a strong S-box that satisfies the stipulated criteria by rapidly searching for the optimal or near-optimal feature subsets that minimize a given ...

A Novel Algebraic Technique for the Construction of Strong Substitution Box

Wireless Personal Communications, 2017
The ability of substitution box (S-box) to create confusion in the cipher attracted different authors to design strong cryptographic S-box. The S-box can further be used in different cryptosystems to create confusion. In this article, a novel scheme is introduced to develop S-box with strong arithmetic background.

An efficient construction of substitution box with fractional chaotic system

Signal, Image and Video Processing, 2013
In this article, we have presented an innovative formation of nonlinear element of block cipher. The suggested construction is chaos based, where we used fractional Rossler chaotic system. We have studied various features of our proposed nonlinear component.

A New Design of Substitution Box with Ideal Strict Avalanche Criterion

Malaysian Journal of Mathematical Sciences, 2022
The use of S-boxes (substitution boxes) to provide nonlinear properties is known to be a common way to design a block cipher. These nonlinear properties are necessary to ensure the security of a block cipher. This manuscript proposes a design construction of a new S-box using affine transformation via cellular automata as a permutation matrix.

ABC Optimization Based Construction of Strong Substitution-Boxes

Wireless Personal Communications, 2018
Most of the block ciphers contain substitution-boxes as their cornerstone primitive to add requisite nonlinearity. S-boxes are responsible to ensure strong confusion and resistance to linear and differential assaults. The security of such ciphers relies on the strength of S-boxes deployed during substitution stage.

Relating Differential Distribution Tables to Other Properties of of Substitution Boxes

Designs, Codes and Cryptography, 2000
Relationships among various characteristics of an \(n \times m\) S-box \((n > m)\) are investigated. First, in addition to the well-known differential distribution table two other tables, namely auto-correlation distribution table and correlation immunity distribution table associated with an S-box are introduced.

Application of Genetic Algorithms in the Construction of Invertible Substitution Boxes

2016
Existing literature shows that genetic algorithms can be successfully used for automated construction of S-boxes. In this paper we show the usage of genetic algorithm, more specifically NSGA-II, as an aid in designing and testing of invertible substitution boxes which are special case of substitution boxes.
