Alternative substitutional box structures for DES
2018 6th International Symposium on Digital Forensic and Security (ISDFS), 2018The DES algorithm is an important encryption protocol that has influenced many cryptology studies. It is still used today in many practical applications such as electronic passport. But it is an important problem that the design parameters of substitution boxes of this algorithm are unknown.

Designing substitution boxes for secure ciphers
International Journal of Innovative Computing and Applications, 2007In cryptography, a Substitution box (S-box) constitutes a cornerstone component of symmetric key algorithms. In block ciphers, they are typically used to obscure the relationship between the plaintext and the ciphertext. It is well-known that the more linear and the less auto-correlated the S-box is, the more resilient the cryptosystem that uses them ...

A Fast Implementation of the Rijndael Substitution Box for Cryptographic AES
2020 3rd International Conference on Data Intelligence and Security (ICDIS), 2020Today’s current standard in Cryptography is the symmetric Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) as selected by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). It is also known as Rijndael Encryption Algorithm. With the emergence of high-performance cloud computing, it is important for the security encryption schemes to perform at higher ...

Substitution Box (S-Box): Current Design Techniques and Future Challen
University of Wah Journal of Computer Science, 2018S-box is considered a vital component of modern encryption algorithm. The secure substitu tions in the form of S-box define the security of encryption algorithm. The substitutions are defined on the basis of set of cryptographic properties. A good S-box requires having good bounds of cryptographic properties.

Globalized firefly algorithm and chaos for designing substitution box
Journal of Information Security and Applications, 2020Abstract This study adopted a metaheuristic approach based on the firefly algorithm (FA) optimization to generate an appropriate configuration for an 8 × 8 Substitution boxes (S-boxes). The FA can construct a strong S-box that satisfies the stipulated criteria by rapidly searching for the optimal or near-optimal feature subsets that minimize a given ...

Implementation White Box Cryptography in Substitution-Permutation network
2020 9th Mediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing (MECO), 2020Advances in technology have led not only to increased security and privacy but also to new channels of information leakage. New leak channels have resulted in the emergence of increased relevance of various types of attacks. One such attacks are Side-Channel Attacks, i.e. attacks aimed to find vulnerabilities in the practical component of the algorithm.

A Novel Algebraic Technique for the Construction of Strong Substitution Box
Wireless Personal Communications, 2017The ability of substitution box (S-box) to create confusion in the cipher attracted different authors to design strong cryptographic S-box. The S-box can further be used in different cryptosystems to create confusion. In this article, a novel scheme is introduced to develop S-box with strong arithmetic background.

An efficient construction of substitution box with fractional chaotic system
Signal, Image and Video Processing, 2013In this article, we have presented an innovative formation of nonlinear element of block cipher. The suggested construction is chaos based, where we used fractional Rossler chaotic system. We have studied various features of our proposed nonlinear component.

A Substitute for the Water Box in the Original EMI Brain Scanner
Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography, 1977A modified water box for the EMI brain scanner is described. The modified box permits parts of the body other than the brain to be scanned. The patient setup for brain scans is simplified, and motion artifacts have almost disappeared.

ABC Optimization Based Construction of Strong Substitution-Boxes
Wireless Personal Communications, 2018Most of the block ciphers contain substitution-boxes as their cornerstone primitive to add requisite nonlinearity. S-boxes are responsible to ensure strong confusion and resistance to linear and differential assaults. The security of such ciphers relies on the strength of S-boxes deployed during substitution stage.
