The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Substrate-Supported Lipid Nanotube Arrays

open access: yes, 2016
This Communication describes the self-assembly of phospholipids into lipid nanotubes inside nanoporous anodic aluminum oxide substrate. Orientations of the lipid molecules in such lipid nanoscale structures were verified by high-resolution spin labeling ...

Substrates and temperatures in the germination of Eriotheca gracilipes seeds

open access: yesREVISTA CIÊNCIA AGRONÔMICA, 2017
ABSTRACT The Eriotheca gracilipes (K. Schum.) A. Robyns) is a forest specie that belongs to the Bombacaceae family and is considered an endemic specie from the Brazilian savanna. The aim of this study was to evaluate the best substrate and temperature for the vigor and germination test of E. gracilipes seeds.

L‐aspartate oxidase provides new insights into fumarate reduction in anaerobic darkness in Synechocystis sp. PCC6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Synechocystis strains deficient in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) secrete more succinate than the WT under dark anaerobic conditions, supporting that SDH then primarily acts as SDH, not as a fumarate reductase. L‐aspartate oxidase (Laspo) from Synechocystis is functional under anaerobic conditions, reducing fumarate to succinate.

Root temperature and growth of young tomato plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
During recent years sophisticated techniques are applied in the glasshouse industry for the control of the glasshouse climate. Along with that development, extensive research programs were carried out to establish optimum conditions for growth.

Distribution of ion-current density on substrate between carbon nanotubes grown from low-temperature plasma

open access: yes, 2008
Using Monte Carlo simulation technique, we have calculated the distribution of ion current extracted from low-temperature plasmas and deposited onto the substrate covered with a nanotube array.

Artificial molecular machines and motors—Design and control of nanoscale motion

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Molecules are constantly moving because of thermal fluctuations, but random motion alone cannot be exploited to perform directional tasks. Artificial molecular machines use chemical, electrical, or light energy to bias this motion. Molecular shuttles, rotary motors, and supramolecular pumps illustrate how nanoscale movement can be controlled and ...

Smaller is better: nanobodies meet NMR

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nanobodies are single‐domain antigen‐binding fragments derived from camelid heavy chain antibodies. Their small size, high stability, and exceptional specificity make nanobodies uniquely useful probes for NMR studies of protein dynamics, transient conformational states, and protein–protein interactions.

Growth of low-density InAs/GaAs quantum dots on a substrate with an intentional temperature gradient by molecular beam epitaxy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
InAs was deposited by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) on a GaAs substrate with an intentional temperature gradient from centre to edge. Two-dimensional (2D) to three-dimensional (3D) morphology evolution was found along the direction in which the substrate ...
