A study of substrate removal in a microbial film reactor [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
Includes bibliographical references.A mathematical model is formulated describing the mechanism of substrate removal by a microbial slime over which a film of liquid, containing the substrate as dissolved biodegradable material, is flowing. It is assumed

Temperature distribution over 6-inch mono-crystal silicon substrate heated by parallel molybdenum filaments in vacuum

open access: yes, 2007
Uniform temperature distribution over a substrate is one of the important issues in the vapor deposition of large - area films. We employ both numerical and experimental approaches to study the temperature distribution over a 6 - inch monocrystal silicon

Temperature-Dependent Growth Mechanisms and Optical Properties of MgF2 Thin Films Synthesized by Plasma-Enhanced Atomic Layer Deposition

open access: yesChemistry
MgF2 films are prepared using plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD). The influence of substrate temperature on the growth behavior, chemical composition, and optical properties of MgF2 films is systematically investigated.

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

Influence of Substrate Stage Temperature and Rotation Rate on the Magneto-Optical Quality of RF-Sputtered Bi2.1Dy0.9Fe3.9Ga1.1O12 Garnet Thin Films

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
Highly bismuth-substituted iron garnet thin films are prepared on quartz substrates by using a radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering technique. We study the factors (process parameters associated with the RF magnetron sputter deposition technique ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

The loops facing the active site of prolyl oligopeptidase are crucial components in substrate gating and specificity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Prolyl oligopeptidase (POP) has emerged as a drug target for neurological diseases. A flexible loop structure comprising loop A (res. 189–209) and loop B (res. 577–608) at the domain interface is implicated in substrate entry to the active site.

High-Temperature (Cu,C)Ba2Ca3Cu4Oy Superconducting Films with Large Irreversible Fields Grown on SrLaAlO4 Substrates by Pulsed Laser Deposition

open access: yesCrystals
(Cu,C)Ba2Ca3Cu4Oy is a nontoxic cuprate superconducting material with a superconducting transition temperature of about 116 K. Recently, it was found that bulk samples of this material synthesized under high pressure hold the highest irreversibility line

Stimulator of interferon genes agonist augmented antitumor immunity of osimertinib in Egfr‐mutated lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining osimertinib with the STING agonist ADU‐S100 activates innate and adaptive immunity to overcome the non‐inflamed microenvironment of Egfr‐mutant lung cancer. This combination increases NK and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration, associated with activation of the STING‐IRF3 pathway and local immunogenic cell death.

Substrate-Dependent Allosteric Regulation in Cytochrome P450cam (CYP101A1) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Various biophysical methods have provided evidence of a second substrate binding site in the well-studied cytochrome P450cam, although the location and biological relevance of this site has remained elusive.
